COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 1 I ran the 1/2 (2 loops) this past weekend and had a blast. Van Cortlandt Park is a great place to do some trail running; it's not too challenging, but not too easy either. These races (held on several holidays throughout the year) are really fun, free, and very laid back - what more could you want?! They do ask for a $10 donation when you pick up your number, but there is no guilt if you don't donate - I saw people do both. You can sign up beforehand, or you can just show up. I signed up, but when I arrived nobody asked me my name or anything and just handed me a number (everyone gets the same number, so they're actually just pointless). If you're looking for a finisher's medal, shirt, or official time, this isn't the race for you - BUT if you want a green beanie, green bagel, or chocolate gold coins, it is! The course this past Sunday was pretty muddy, but I'd imagine that all depends on the time of year. Doing 1 loop (or the 10K) seems to be the most popular, as the course was basically empty after that - with only the occasional runner passing by. I enjoyed the 2nd loop much more; it was so quiet and relaxing! Looking forward to the Easter race! |
