"I ran a trail marathon - in New York City" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 4  FANS: 2

I was running along a trail in Rocky Mountain National Park this summer, when I thought, "Wouldn't it be fun to try a trail marathon?" Never thought I'd have done it just eight months later!

If you are one of those people who needs big crowds, title sponsors, expo's, and lots of scenery, then go to Disney World. If you like running, try this race.

It's tough - rocky hills, straight-up inclines, mud, and even streams running THROUGH the course (not ACROSS the course). The organizers put this on FREE, so don't complain about the organization. But they have bib numbers (the same for all), treats and "awards" - stuffed bunnies - for more than the finishers.

You should plan on bringing a Camelbak or carrying a Gatorade with you during the run because the only water stop is at the start/finish (4 loops to the marathon). I got awfully dehydrated on loop #4.

I can't give the "fans" section a 1 because there actually were a handful of people cheering me on!

And you should plan on banging the gong at the race's end!

This runs in my backyard, so it has a place near and dear to me. It was my 2nd slowest, but who cares? Enjoy it!
