"First Time For Everything" (about: 2011)

COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

This race gave me what I was looking for in my first marathon: a local, simple, official 26.2mi. race. I understand that the race had been scheduled to run the same weekend as a big Jacksonville race and the organizers agreed to reschedule late and this hurt advertising, volunteer recruitment, etc. I'd like to run it again, but I'll be wearing a GPS watch next time (no mile markers!).

"Need more water stops" (about: 2011)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 St. Augustine Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 1  FANS: 2

Water stops were placed much too far apart, sometimes by as many as 4 miles, which in the Florida winter heat made it much, much worse for runners. The mile markers simply did not exist for the most part. No gel stops, not much on the way of crowd support and running in a bike lane hoping passing cars did not hit you.

W. C. from Saint Augustine, FL (11/28/2011)
"Flat, warm and fast race in lovely Saint Augustine" (about: 2011)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 St. Augustine Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

Good- Fairly flat course that was easy to navigate. The enthusiasm at ACRR water station at miles 4/8 was the greatest highlight of the day.

Needs work- More accurate mile markers at each mile (not every three). Timers at mile markers. More water stations based upon temperature that day. Course could have used a few more turns to make it more interesting. Lack of spectators possibly due to lack of local advertising. Calling of names at finish line was not accurate.
