Race Details

The marathon runs deep through the heart of Forest Park, gaining nearly 2,000 of cumulative elevation over 26.2 miles. The course offers a nice sampling of Portland's 5,167 acre natural area, including over 19 continuous miles on the Wildwood Trail. The marathon begins along lower Saltzman Road, climbing moderately before joining Leif Erikson Drive heading N/NW. At the terminus of Leif Erikson at NW Germantown, climb the short Cannon Trail to meet up with the Wildwood Trail heading S/SE (toward Portland). The course then follows the Wildwood Trail all the way to the Stone House before heading down and out the Lower Macleay Trail along Balch Creek.

"Beautiful Course" (about: 2013)

This course was beautiful but probably the most difficult course I have run (>30 marathons). The course is a single track hiking trails that is an out and back (the out part is primarily uphill and the back is primarily downhill). It was well organized and the only suggestion I could make would be to have an extra stop between the 5.4 mile and 10 mile stops (possibly a porta-potty at the 10 mile?). If you run this, be sure to bring a container or camel back with fluids. The pre-race and post-race was good...lots of drinks for recovery, etc.

Running under the canopy of the forest was just fantastic...I would definitely do one of these again!
