"Well Organized - Good January destination" (about: 2019)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 2 I left a foot of snow at home and landed in 70 degree temps in South Texas. Can't beat that :). Thoughts on the run... Good: - Organization at the start/finish - Traffic control along the course was EXCELLENT - Course was an absolute pancake, and weather for 2019 was perfect - Lots of hotels within walking distance of the start - Age group awards were an engraved slab of mesquite and very nice! Not so good: - Crowd support was minimal, and the 2nd half of the marathon was quite lonely - Aid stations were a bit disorganized - I generally didn't know who had water or gatorade, and didn't know when/where to expect gels Bad: - No gear check. I was honestly shocked by this. Overall opinion: This is a well organized, flat & fast way to escape the cold in January. This is still a 'young' race (this was the 6th annual running), so plenty of room to improve.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 4 FANS: 5 Very good little town marathon, my big problem was the marathon route from 2nd street, YOU HAVE TO CLOSE THE STREET, not ok the trail transition close to Trenton St. it's not good for runners ankles all that twisting.

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 When I would approach the spectator/support groups, I thought I had heard them cheering me and calling me by my first name but I would brush it off my mind like if IT was all in my imagination. Finally, on the third time I heard my name being called out more clearly I asked how they knew my name. I was surprised to find out the marathon organizers had provided them with the names to our numbers. It was very thoughtful....

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 expo/packet pickup: - I missed the expo but it appeared to have been much larger than what I would have expected for a race this size. Packet pickup was easy and volunteers were great. course: - Other than the bridge, it's completely flat. Most of the course is on roads or a curvy bike trail running near the road. Lots of aid stations. I'm from Iowa so the palm trees were a big draw for me. Nothing else on the course seemed spectacular. We split from half marathoners around mile 8. It got a little lonely after the split as I got spread out from other runners. GU and fruit at several aid stations. Happy to get ice at mile 23. Few spectators but the ones that were there were very enthusiastic. Swag: - I love the tech shirt. Medal is among the best. Above average bag of goodies. Weather: - Hot & windy. 69 at the start. 78 at the finish. Sunny for the first half of the race. ~20 MPH head wind during much of the second half. Post race: - Limited food options. Friendly people to talk to. I missed the music (if there was any). Awards ceremony was going on when I came in. Lots of half marathoners were signed up for massages so my name was never called. All things considered, I really enjoyed the race. The organizers have put on a good event. It was in line with my expectations. I'll likely be back as I'm a sucker for a tropical destination in January.
