When starting a new marathon in Florida one of the goals was to make it FLAT and FAST course for those who aspire to Boston Qualify. We created a 2-loop course that has nearly ZERO elevation. The 2 loop course gives runners plenty of aid stations and helps them know what to expect on the back half. Inaugural year was 50 degrees which was perfect running weather.

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 The volunteers for this race were outstanding with great enthusiasm and assistance. Organization was fantastic. Plenty of everything runners want and need pre-race, during the race and post-race. The course was a simple flat double-loop in residential areas with some interesting scenery. Headwinds and heat in the second 13.1 were challenging -at the very least. This double-loop is a blessing and a curse for the second loop - especially the last 6.5 miles, you know exactly what you have ahead of you. On a day with less wind and lower temps, this might be a good choice to try for a PR.

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 I decided to run this marathon because my friends and I were traveling to Fort Myers Beach for a quick weekend getaway. The drive was only 20 minutes so why not run a race while on vacation. The pros: -The race started at 6:45am. -It was a small local race. -Parking and getting to the start of the race was easy. -Free food and beer at the finish. -Race medal was large and fun. -Race volunteers were fun and very supportive. -Fun, loud music at the after party. The cons: -It was a small race so after the half marathoners finished, it got lonely. -Two loop course -The weather was extremely hot...(not the race directors fault) -Hard to find the expo -Lacked spectators I had a rough second half of the race due to the heat, but so did everyone else. I would run this marathon again if I was on vacation in the area.

"Great Inaugural Event" (about: 2014)

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 Although the full marathon repeated the 1/2 marathon course twice, I was very impressed with this small (for now) inaugural event. The course was very well marked, took runners through upscale neighborhoods and had lots of GREAT volunteers and the local police presence for traffic control was impressive. This event was a two hour drive from home but it is easy to consider it a 'local' event. Kudos to the race director for a great new event on the west coast of Florida. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. As word gets out I imagine this will grow into a destination race for those that want to head to Florida for an early winter race. |
