Let me start off by saying, if you're not from a state with high altitudes or elevated mountains, you can't prepare hard enough for this race. When I registered for the race earlier this year, the views were breathtaking on the website but I thought it was simply an ad gimmick. I arrived in Utah the week before and after seeing all the state has to offer, couldn't wait to drive up to Eden to see this race location. The course itself was extremely difficult, considering my longest race time prior was a 4:40+ trail race in Wisconsin but that didn't have altitudes. The first six miles is a zig and zag climb from roughly 5500 ft. to 9000 ft. Then its back down to roughly 6000 ft. before then climbing, and I mean climbing as I saw no one 'running' miles 14-16 but instead walking. It was only fair since this is where the half marathoners started. They have to experience what the full marathoners went through for their first six miles. After starting to descend around mile 16, it became a little tricky with a single-track, rocks & roots path that required eyes on ground the whole way but if you want to see beauty, stop and take a peak out over the lake (Pineview Resrvoir) at around mile 20-22 and you see real beauty. It felt great crossing the finish line, unexpectedly around 6:40 but hey, you finish.

Take in a small fraction of the beauty Utah has to offer by doing this race but don't have any high expectations from a PR perspective.
