"Pleasant, no-frills event" (about: 2018)

Wind-driven snow for 2018 was the most memorable part of the event! Event was very easy to participate in, well organized with lots of good ideas obviously incorporated into the planning and execution. 5 stars for the course because all runners (5k, 13.1, 26.2) share the same course as long as possible and the same start time. When the marathoners head out for the longer run, the course is nearly impossible to get lost on, which is important in a small event like this. Minimal spectators, but volunteers were committed team members. Hats off to them.

"Nice weather marred by unseasonal weather" (about: 2018)

Race directors have no control over mother nature. The weather report at 6 am predicted rain starting at 11 am with a low temp of 39 degrees. Well we had an early snow storm with a mix of snow, sleet and hail. The volunteers deserve credit for standing out in the miserable weather to support the crazy runners.

There wasn't much at the expo besides your basic bib pick-up and some extra gear for sale. The pick-up was located 10 miles from downtown but you had the option of pick-up at the start of the race. I wish the race had spent more mileage in the downtown/Creighton campus/old market areas but I understand that races try to cut back on the expenses of closing public roads. The second half was basically an out and back on a bike path in Iowa. There was a water stop every 2-3 miles and pretty good refreshments at the end of the race.

Omaha is easy to get around, very clean and you are able to get inexpensive hotels. I was able to get a room at the Hyatt near the finish for $99 per night.

I am happy I did the race and may return in the future.

"Thoughtful Organizer. Tough Weather" (about: 2018)

The weather conditions were brutal. Wind, rain, sleet, snow.

I heard this is pretty rare, and the director was super kind. I was able to get my age-group award without waiting, and I heard he even opened up his car for some finishers to warm up in.

The course is nice on the Nebraska side (a little dull on the Iowa side).

It was hard for my support crew to see me in the first half (due to closed roads), but they were able to see me several times in the second half. Good thing. The weather kept most other spectators at home.

Medal and finisher quarter-zip were both really nice. I like that we also got a tree to plant.

This is a small, well-run race.
