SUMMARY: This fast and beautiful road race takes runners to the East Coast and onto the iconic Kancamagus Highway. Both marathon and half marathon courses feature breathtaking views of the incredible White Mountains National Forest, Swift River, and several historic sights along the way. The Kancamagus Highway is also unique for its lack of modern-day amenities such as gas stations, restaurants, and hotels, making this course remarkably captivating. This Special Edition race will only be offered for one year and is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience and could lead you to a Personal Record or a Boston Qualifying time!

The REVEL White Mountains Marathon is a unique event that attracts runners with its scenic views and fast descent. The marathon starts at the mountain's peak, offering breathtaking views and the opportunity to set personal records thanks to the predominantly downhill course. The route winds through the most beautiful parts of New Hampshire's mountainous landscapes, ending in the charming town of Conway.

The organization of the marathon is particularly noteworthy. Participants are transported to the starting line by bus, ensuring convenience and a timely start to the race. Along the route, there are numerous aid stations where runners can replenish their supplies of water, electrolytes, and energy gels. Although part of the course includes steep descents, it also has several uphill sections, adding an extra challenge for runners.

A distinctive feature of this marathon is the warm atmosphere and spectator support at the finish line. Each participant receives a medal featuring the race's symbol - a moose - which serves as a wonderful reminder of their accomplishment. After finishing, runners are offered snacks and drinks, helping them to recover after the intense race.

The marathon's highlights include excellent organization, a scenic and fast route, and a friendly atmosphere - making it a true adventure that leaves unforgettable impressions. Regardless of their level of preparation, every participant will find something special in this marathon, making their experience both memorable and inspiring.

This was my 34th marathon. So I am speaking of experience. This was brilliantly organized from the very start. The bus ride up an organizer stepped on the bus confirming our distance choice and letting us know the ride was about half an hour to the start. We received heat blankets and gloves for the cold start. Porta potties and water and nuun available. Music and announcer. Manned trucks to take your bags which they pre-tagged for you. Piles of discarded clothing for donations. The course was mostly down hill but it has some rolling hills to it and a couple steeper ones to relieve your quads. The weather was cool and perfect for running hard and a BQ. Finish line was just packed with spectators screaming and cheering you on. NH never disappoints. I hope they do this marathon again. It was so beautiful and enjoyable. Lots of police presence on course. Thank you! No cell service. LOVE THIS> THANK YOU!! Also shout out to the Grand Hotel. Perfect stay. The buses were in the parking lot.

The course is of course amazing and a bit rolling with a rather steep incline around mile 10. Weather was great. Any questions you have can be answered at expo. The team was very informative. Awesome that they gave us emergency blankets for warmth. It was cold at start area. I felt the aid stations were well manned and equipted. This is one of the better organized marathons I have done. Police drove up and down course. Many photographers. Good free photos. Love the shirt options. The crowds down out of mountain area in particular were great. AMAZING. Love the quick nice card with all my stats on it. If you BQ you get a nice BQ luggage tag. The medal was big and beautiful. Love the moose. Weather was cool and good for running.

"Beautiful Race" (about: 2024)

As I understand it, this is the first year for this marathon. I thought it was a good experience overall. I'd recommend it strongly, but I would also point out there is some room for much needed improvements. Here are my lists of pros and cons:

Pros:
* Great scenery. I've run marathons in 30 different states and this was easily the most beautiful course.
* Downhill. Starts at about 2,800 feet and ends at about 500 feet.
* Organization was really pretty impressive, if you ignore some serious flaws (see my cons). Getting thousands of people up a mountain for a 6am start time is no easy feat.
* I'd rate both the shirts and medals as 'ok' to 'good'
* Swag - free gloves and mylar blankets for a very cold wait at the start line. Good thinking.
* Someone in charge was very helpful when I was worried about missing the expo because of my flight timing. Good communication overall.

Cons:
* Revel is a serious organization that hosts marathons around the country. The lack of manpower at the aide stations was a glaringly obvious screw-up. They had maybe 3 people at the first set of table handing out waters to about 2,000 runners who were all bunched together because it was the beginning of the race. It didn't get much better as the race progressed. Also, the pours of water and energy drink were very small and in small cups. We're marathon runners! We need a lot of hydration!
* While the organization was overall impressive, I don't know why I was at the start line 1 hour and 45 minutes before the race started. Surely they'll push the shuttle times back if they run this race again. We're marathon runners! We don't want to be all stiff and cold from sitting on the frozen ground waiting for the race to begin! In addition to pushing the shuttle times back, consider bringing up some propane heaters. They had those at the Mesa Marathon. Very smart.
* Conway, NH while very pleasant is not a big place. Maybe this was too big a race for a town this size. Congestion around the expo was pretty bad.
* Had no idea how to find the shuttles after the race. There were no signs, and none of the volunteers had any idea--in fact, they pointed me in the opposite direction of where I was supposed to go.
* Downhill. I mentioned this as a pro but it wasn't great for me personally. I didn't have a good finish time despite the elevation profile and I was more sore after this race than after a more typical marathon.
* Tough hill (about a 300 foot climb) between mile 10 and 12. A serious challenge.
