scenic views of the East Bay.
The Cox Sports Marathon and Willow Tree Half Marathon are part of the
second annual Cox Providence Rhode Races. Slated for Sunday, May 3, 2009,
this unique event also features a 5k run.
"We have developed a very scenic course that will showcase the capitol city
and include a good portion of the East Bay," said Charlie Breagy, race
director, Cox Providence Rhode Races.
The overall Cox Sports Marathon and Willow Tree Half Marathon courses have
been enhanced from the inaugural event held last May. Both races will start
and finish in downtown Providence and begin simultaneously at 8 a.m. on
Exchange Street, adjacent to Burnside Park and Kennedy Plaza.
The 26.2 mile Cox Sports Marathon, which is a Boston Marathon qualifier,
kicks off on Exchange Street (adjacent to Kennedy Plaza and Burnside Park).
The course will wind through portions of East Side of Providence and head
outside the city to East Providence towards the East Bay. Runners will pass
Narragansett Bay and head to the East Bay Bike Path. The course then winds
through Barrington, returns through the East Bay Bike Path and concludes
back in downtown Providence to the finish.
