A pair of 30-year-old engineers took top honors at the Cox Sports Marathon in downtown Providence. Scott Leslie, a telecommunications engineer from Rutland, Mass., established a comfortable lead throughout, and coasted as he secured the men's marathon title with a time of 2:35:45. Jennifer Edelmann, a structural engineer, held off Kate Jarocki to win women's race in 3:01:07.

More than three thousand three hundred runners participated in the inaugural Cox Providence Rhode Races, an event that featured three races of varying distances all taking place simultaneously on the streets of downtown Providence. The Cox Sports Marathon men's race was won by Blaine Moore in 2:43:28. Alyson Venti won the women's race in 3:01:02.

The debut of the 2008 Cox Providence Marathon saw rain and three thousand runners take to the streets of the capitol city of Providence, Rhode Island. Blaine Moore won the marathon in 2:43:28. Alyson Venti in her marathon debut at the debut marathon won in 3:01:02.

   Providence to Host New Marathon (Boston Herald)
Providence Rhode Island will begin hosting its newest marathon event beginning on May 4th. The events, titled Cox Providence Rhode Races, will include the marathon, half-marathon, marathon relay, 5 kilometer run and childrens races. John Mathews, president of Eident Sports Marketing, stated that it will be a runners course and void of any large hills. The Rhode Island Race hopes to attract 10,000 runners in its first year. A prize purse is expected but exact amounts have yet to be determined.
