Press Release - The Sedona Marathon - 2/7/09

        Elite Racer Chuck Engle Wins 4th Annual Sedona Marathon

Sedona, Feb 7 - Runner Chuck Engle of Dublin Ohio took an early lead and 
finished the Sedona Marathon narrowly missing the course record of 
2:44:49. Engle's time was 2:45:50. The field of runners were faster 
overall this year. The top 4 finishers all finished under three hours 
which is new for this challenging course. Dan Kuch of Lake Havasu City 
Arizona took second with a time of 2:48:12 and Ben Leseur of Mesa, AZ took 
third with and overall time of 2:56:41. 

Engle said of the race, "The Sedona Marathon was deceptively challenging, 
amazingly beautiful and incredibly fun. Each step along the 26.2 mile 
course offered another breathtaking view. It was hard to remember I was 
running a marathon and not on a wilderness trip through the red rocks of 
Sedona. Definitely a must do marathon."

In the Women's Division Anita Fromm of Albuquerque, NM took first with a 
time of 3:35:52 and Katherine Metzger of Phoenix, Az took second running 
3:36:20. Erin Phelps of Flagstaff AZ was third with a time of 3:43:44.

In the half-marathon Men's and Women's Division Runners from Flagstaff, AZ 
dominated. In the Men's division the overall winner was Austin Ballie with 
a time of 1:14:08, closely followed by Anthony Gallo who had a time of 
1:15:22. Third place finisher was Vince Sherry whose time was 1:16:25. 

In the Women's division Alvina Begay cam in a full two minutes in front of 
her closes competitor with a time of 1:26:38. She was followed by Heidi 
Schuette who had a time of 1:28:50 and Ellen Strickler whose time was 
1:34:10.  

The 5K Men's Division's first place winner was Billy Orman of Tuba City, AZ 
with a time of 17:41. Smith was closely followed by Aaron Biah who missed 
first place by less than 1 second. Garrett Debs of Sedona, AZ took third 
with a time of 18:09. 

In the women's division Janice McCaffrey of Calgary Canada took first with 
a time of 21:35. Sara Sherry of Flagstaff, AZ took second with a time of 
22:12 and Coleen Hopkins of Toronto Canada took third with a time of 22:54.
