Press Release - White Tail Trail Marathon - 5/21/09

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Trail Marathon Planned For Southern Ohio

WAYNESVILLE (May 21, 2009) - Southern Ohio Running Events (SORE) is
organizing the first White Tail Trail Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K on
October 25, 2009. The race will take place at Caesar Creek State Park,
about 30 miles east of Dayton, Ohio and 45 miles north of downtown
Cincinnati, Ohio.

The race offers a fast course with very little technical terrain. This race
is perfect for the beginning trail runner or walker, or the experienced
runner looking for a trail marathon PR. The course will be open for 8 hours
to encourage athletes of all abilities to participate. With a late October
race date, the weather should offer cool, dry conditions for race
participants.

Planned for the height of fall color in southern Ohio, the mostly
single-track, tree-lined trail offers inspiring beauty. The forests of the
area are comprised of over 65 species of plants. A northern flood plain
forest is found in the valley, while mixed associations of oak-hickory and
beech-maple woodlands clothe the ridges and hillsides. Red-tail hawk,
white-tail deer, raccoon, red fox and box turtle make the park their home.

The wooded lands of the park were home to several early Ohio Indian
cultures. Many of these Indian villages were located along an ancient
Indian trail, part of which follows the ridgeline on the eastern side of
the Caesar Creek valley. The trail was used by white settlers in the early
1800s, who named it Bullskin Trace. Later the trail became part of the
Underground Railroad used by runaway slaves to reach safe houses run by
area Quakers.
