"Fast, scenic, and a must-run!" (about: 2010)

I loved the flat, scenic run through rural Minnesota. There is something special about small-town marathons - all of the benefits of the big races without any of the hassle. The facilities were clean and plentiful. Volunteers were awesome and so friendly! My favorite part of the race was the first third, where a green canopy of trees covered the trail. The trail joined several towns together, so it was nice to visit several communities along the way. This is a flat, fast course with a great opportunity to run a PR and qualify for Boston. The race photographer took many photos along the way, so you will be guaranteed to find yourself in the photos posted on the website. What a nice touch. The shirt is among the nicest I have. Sharon Hobbs and her volunteers must be proud of hosting such a well-run race. This is a must-do race; I will be back.

One of the best small races I have run. Great trail through the Minnesota countryside. Perfect weather in 2010. Light snow the night before made for a crisp race day! Great volunteers, and the spectators were awesome. Great finish and nice finisher's medal and shirt. Race number pickup, held the morning of the race, could have been better - my only recommendation for a change to this great marathon.

This is a great small race on a fast and flat course. Quite a few Boston qualifying times this year, including me! Not a lot of spectators but everyone I ran past cheered me on like they were there just for me! Great improvement on the medal this year. Very well-run event.

"Awesome!" (about: 2010)

This was the second year that I have run this race. I had a great time last year and was expecting the same this year. What I got was everything last year had and more! Anything that I would have changed about last year was bettered this year and made for a great time.

I know that Sharon the RD had nothing to with the weather other than the time of year the race is run, but you couldn't have ordered better weather than what we received yesterday.

This is the fastest course I have ever run on, and the miles really fly by with the changing scenery. I PR'ed on this course last year and this year I PR'ed again, bettering my time by over six minutes, which finally earned me a spot at Boston.

If you are looking for a low-key, super-fast race, where the people are more than friendly and perhaps could be the best marathon you have ever run, Lake Wobegon would be it!

"A fun small marathon in a gorgeous part of MN" (about: 2010)

This was a fun marathon. It is small, but the course is gorgeous, scenic, flat, and fast, taking you through four quaint towns and a gorgeous mix of woods, lakes, and farmland.

The race is organized by a local running club, and they clearly know what they are doing and what runners like. Good support from aid stations and guys patrolling the course on bikes. Efficient use of drop bags between the start and finish. Nice technical shirts and attractive medals to the finishers, and no shortage of food and drink after the race.

Spectators (and volunteers, for that matter) get 5 stars because, while there were not a lot of them, they were quite enthusiastic and helpful.

The entry fee was a ridiculously cheap $45 at the time I registered. For all of the little personal touches that went into this, that is an incredible bargain. The chilly/cool weather and favorable NW winds (at your back, or at least helping, for most of the race) were an added bonus that produced a number of really good results. I would highly recommend this race.

"Could not get any better." (about: 2010)

Let me start out by saying that I PW'd. Bad. My Death March began at mile 18. That being said....

This is by far the best race I've ever been in. I jumped right on a bus and was immediately on my way to the heated high school. Bag drop took about 2 seconds. Props to the girl singing the national anthem without sound equipment (yes, the race is that small). Nice downhill on mile 1, then the whole race is on the path. It was a cool day, but the trees on the path knocked down the wind (ended up being dressed too hot). The SCRR folks made everyone feel welcome. Aid station folks were all great. The roving bike patrol was great too. Finally, thanks to Race Director Sharon for managing this gem. Best race ever.

"This is a don't-miss marathon!!" (about: 2010)

This is a race that should definitely be on your race calendars in the future. It's a beautiful course, yesterday's weather was absolutely marathon perfect (upper 30's at the start, no precipitation, cross/tailwind), and it's very well organized and a great dollar value. Very good for a BQ race, as the course truly is "fast and flat." Custom finisher's medals, technical shirts, abundant food for finishers AND spectators (homemade cookies, pizza, fruit, bagels, soda), and race prints signed by the artist for age-group winners. This is a MUST-DO marathon!!

This is a fun marathon. A small but first-class marathon.... All 200 runners get VIP treatment.

Weather was perfect for the 2009 race. Cool weather, with even a tailwind at times. The course is on a very nice trail and is quite scenic. Course is also flat and fast. Very enjoyable run if you don't mind the lack of other runners around. Event is very well organized. Enjoyed the run.

"Outstanding" (about: 2009)

I had high expectations for this race that were exceeded in every possible way. The organization was outstanding, especially having the high school open at the start and the easy packet pickup and bag drop. The volunteers were amazing. Where else can you drop off a nice running coat at mile 12 and have it waiting for you at the finish line?

This race was clearly organized by runners who know running. They thought of every detail and left nothing to chance.

The course is flat, and the volunteers are friendly. If you live the the Twin Cities, especially the northwest suburbs, you would be crazy to not have this race on your spring calendar.
