This was my 35th marathon and my first Lincoln Marathon. I was impressed with the overall race organization. From packet pick-up to the victory party - good job.

The hills were not too bad (coming from a flatlander), the rain made for a soggy start but at least the sun didn't make an appearance and create an otherwise miserably humid day. Having the coliseum open before the start was a nice escape from the rain. Not many fans along the course but with the rain, who could blame them?

The finisher shirts were a nice bonus and the medals are nice. The food at the finish could be improved (yogurt, pretzels, bananas and apples) but the food at the victory party more than made up for it. Highly recommend this marathon for anyone doing the 50 states and otherwise.

Race continues to be well organized. Great support from the public, except I'm sure the weather affected turnout this year.

Crowding on the bike trail is still a problem, but I'd hate to see the route move. I suggest full marathoners start at 7:00 and half-marathoners start at 8:00. This would help the congestion quite a bit.

Thanks for a great race! Wish you could control the weather....

"First marathon - FABULOUS experience" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon ever. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it! The water stations with lids and straws were wonderful. The shirts and medals were great and very appreciated. A little more spectator support on the second half of the course would be appreciated. Also, food or snacks at the end of the full marathon were not very visible.
Definitely a wonderful experience. I WILL be back next year.

"nice race - bad weather!" (about: 2007)

This was my first small marathon. I really missed having a pace group or at least a clock at every mile. There were no bananas only oranges after the race. The finisher's shirts were picked over by the half marathoners, so I was stuck with a large. I wish the awards were earlier - I had a long drive ahead and could not wait another 2 hours for the ceremony. I did like the flat course and probably would have had a better experience if not for the weather.

This was my first marathon and I had a great experience! I loved the straws in the drinks and the orange slices. I agree with the previous poster about the gels at the expo - someone with a good selection would make a killing there. I will be back next year trying to improve my time!

I was number 4447 and I liked the race a lot. This was my first year doing the race. I am in a wheelchair. I had fun, plus meeting new people was very nice.

"Great first half-marathon for me" (about: 2007)

I live here and really enjoyed it. They need to do something about the bottleneck on the bike path at 48th and Highway 2 - on a dry day, it is probably OK, but in the rain, it stunk. It was impossible to pass in the grass without ending up with a leg full of mud. Organization is awesome; however, because of the bottleneck, they should consider creating an even narrower start area and make sure slower runners, beginners and walkers are at the back. I had a lot of trouble getting around slower runners on the widest part of the course - and became even worse farther along. I will definitely run it again though.

I think this is a great choice of marathons for anyone considering running one or looking for nice spring marathon in the midwest. Some things that stand out for me are: the low registration fee, the pasta dinner (this is INCLUDED in our registration and friends and family may attend at no additional cost), the nice technical running shirt and another t-shirt for finishing, GREAT volunteers, cups with lids and straws at the aid stations, orange slices, flat course, great parking at the start, showers and massages at the finish and several options for lodging. I really only saw two areas that could use improvement. The expo didn't have much to offer and it was crammed into too small of a space. It made me want to get out of there as quickly as possible. I was hoping to buy some Bodyglide and GU there, but the only Bodyglide were these teeny tiny samples that were probably given to the local running store for promotional purposes for them to give away to customers that they in turn sold for $1 each! Rip off! There was a very limited selection of gel flavors and brands. I think a vendor who came well-stocked to this event could do very well. The other thing is that this event is made up of predominately half marathoners. At points during the first half it can be a bit crowded and frustrating. As a result, I felt like I did a lot of weaving in and out of runners the first half of the course. Other than those two things, this is a fabulous marathon and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

For most folks this is a race where you can PR. I say that because parking, getting to the start line, and all the packet pickup issues are very easy to take care of here. No wasted energy before the race starts.

The course has only a couple of inclines that are spaced out and the rest is honestly flat. Just enough hills to give you muscles some variety. There are no killer hills.

There is also enough on course support. I would like a few more aid stations, but it was adequate. Bring your own gels, all they pass out is orange slices.

The volunteers and race folks are great and plentiful. There are not very many fans out, but the ones that are out are wonderful. It was also horrible weather this year so it probably kept most inside.

For $50.00 this marathon is a great deal. There are also a lot of fast folks at this race, so those chasing a PR or BQ should have plenty of company.
