"A Great Midwest Marathon" (about: 2007)

Lincoln really got it right. The race was very well organized from check-in through post-race. God bless the National Guard, police, race volunteers, and most of all the fans who stood in the rain and howling winds (welcome to May in the midwest) to cheer us on. Parking, bathrooms, water stations, multiple Elvis's, finisher's medal, post-race food, free massages, and all of the friendly people made this a great race. Good job Lincoln! Highly recommend this race to anyone whether it be your first of fiftieth.

"very impressed" (about: 2007)

This was my 5th marathon. It was not necessarily scenic. There were no bands along the route. The expo was small and crowded. The weather was unprfedictable seeing that there was thunder/lightening and heavy rain the night before. This race however was well-run and great. The things that really matter were there. The aid stations were stocked, numerous, well-manned, and ready. The mile markers were easily found and most had someone reading split times. The community of Lincoln seemed engaged and involved. The race directors handled the challenges of weather and non-functioning PA systems fine. The support after the race was strong and encouraging. (Friendly people, free massages, and snacks, although no bananas). After failing to qualify for Boston on two other occasions, I had high hopes in Lincoln. The course is conducive to posting fast times and I was able to hoof it out this time. I think if not for the strong headwinds most had to suffer through, especially miles 16 through 20, the times might have been faster.

As far as crowd support, I am sure the somewhat rainy, foul weather prevented us from seeing the full on community support. Personally, crowd support isn't that important to me until the last couple hundreds yards. I usually zone out during the race.

Way to go Lincoln!

"First Half Marathon a great experience!" (about: 2007)

This was my first half marathon and it was a great experience. (Other than the really wet start). The people of Lincoln really went all out to make 13.1 miles not feel like 13.1 miles. There was never a spot where someone wasn't out to cheer us on. The folks on 20th street were tops!! The bottle of water was more than welcome at the 9 mile mark. You folks on Sheridan know how to come out in mass! Thanks everyone!

"Nice Race" (about: 2007)

Due to injury, I had to cut my marathon short by just finishing the half-marathon. I can say I would recommend this marathon to everyone. It is well organized in a nice setting on the UNL campus. Since I only did the half, my one complaint would be the amount of time spent on the bike trail. It was a terrible weather day so put an asterisk by my comments about fans. Lincolnites and the Lincoln Track Club are very enthusiastic about this race. Course was very fair otherwise and hopefully I will be back in 2008 to run the full course.

"A very well-organized marathon" (about: 2007)

I thought the organization for this marathon was excellent. The start/finish area was large and without a lot of congestion. The course was very well marked, traffic was managed well, and the aid stations were plentiful and stocked very well. A nice touch was the lids and straws on the water and gatorade, although most of the time I just ripped them off and threw the liquid into my mouth. The course is mostly flat with hills of only a shallow grade. The last six miles or so are flat or slightly downhill- I can't thank the folks who designed this course enough for that. The weather was windy and wet - my feet were soaked within the first mile. The wind was kind of nasty when running against it. The post-race showers are ice cold- just a little warm water would be nice. And, don't forget to bring a towel!

I would definitely recommend this race for your Nebraska marathon.

"Lincoln Track Club does a great job" (about: 2007)

Yes, the 2007 race was rainy! The LTC did a nice job preparing, although I was under the impression there would be pace teams (am I mistaken)?! The pasta party the night before was a wonderful extra for me and my family. I do have two suggestions for improvement: 1) Better/louder/more visable splits at each mile marker. I heard maybe one split of the 12 on the course and that was because I asked for a repeat of the time. 2) not allowing runners that have already finished and/or spectators crowd the last half mile (southwest of the Coliseum); there were lots of folks not obeying the barriers in place and it was harder to finish with people running across the street/sidewalk as you are looking at the long-awaited finish line.

Just wanted to thank all who played a role in the '07 marathon. I picked Lincoln for my first due to all the fun we have had running the half in the past. It was a very fun day all around. See you next year.

My eleventh marathon and first Lincoln Marathon but as Arnold says 'I'll be back'! This was the best organized race that I have run in. Great pre-race pasta party for the whole family, two shirts, very nice medal, free massage, post race food all for an economical price! Course is very flat - I can't remember anything that resembled a hill of any significant size. Straws and lids for the water/gatoraide was fantastic! Good thing they are limited the number of runners - it was a little crowded for the first eight miles. I must be the only fool that lines up at the correct pace location. They had plenty of volunteers to make sure everything went smoothly. I never comment about the weather - the man upstairs is in change of that and I try not to be critical of him. Considering the size of Lincoln, they had great crowd support. Lincoln/Nebraska should be proud of this event!

"Great race. Absolutely the best in the area." (about: 2007)

Great race, inspiring fans, flat course.

Got a technical shirt for entering, and a nice warm 'finishers' cotton t-shirt to put on at the end (we were all soaked, so the shirts helped). This was a great touch over previous years.

The only thing I think they could improve on is moving the bike path portion up to Highway 2. The bottleneck when crossing the 10K pad was a little frustrating, and there's plenty of room for both traffic and runners on the HWY if they coned off one lane.

Also, it'd be nice if the organizers were more adament about the slower runners moving further back at the start. Why were there walkers standing 15-20 seconds from the starting line? I think they were just beginners who didn't know any better, but it was maddening at times for the first couple miles. Better signage and/or direction would probably help this problem.

Still... I look forward to running this race again next year. It gets better every year I run it.

I definitely suggest this run to anybody... beginner or veteran.

"Excellent race for a PR" (about: 2007)

3 previous marathons | 1 Lincoln Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

The race is one of the best marathon events here in the Midwest, and I highly recommend it for someone who is trying to run a PR. The frequent declines give your heart an excellent chance to recover and help push your pace. The spectators were great the first half, but there was hardly anyone on the course on the second half. Overall, I really like the event and plan to do many more Lincoln Marathons!
