Weather was perfect. The first eight miles with the hills were a bit hard, but the views along the way were outstanding. The marines at the water stops were by far the most fantastic part of the whole race! The only negative were the lines at the finish to get on the transportation; we actually hitched a ride from a lovely couple leaving a coffee shop up the road to Clarendon station.

The whole run was top-notch, and the pace groups were there... so you could watch your time slip/float by. THAT was FUN!! But it was really a great venue. The "pre-game" was good, with plenty of goodies and useful products as well. Post-race was a bit crowded, and food was not great for post-race nutrition, although the beer tent worked for me. Massage tent had a brutally long line. But the gauntlet of marines at all water stops, "Moto" areas, and final finish were all terrific. The race was good fun and I would suggest it as a true venue to anyone. But stay at a hotel right near the finish. I figured the free shuttles could never keep up with capacity, and they couldn't. Parking was a nightmare. Details on how to get to the event were scarce and actual addresses are necessary for GPS navigation. I walked back many miles to try to find my car, and traffic was non-negotiable until the cones were lifted after the 6-plus-hour mark of the start. Race nutrition was appropriate and mile markers were plentiful and visible. Do this race; you will not regret it.

You need water at every mile, especially after the half. Water stations on the second half of the course were too far in between.

Not very impressed with MCM '08. The expo, t-shirt, medal and coin were great. The mess at the finish was inexcusable. They should have handed out bottles of water right at the finish. But instead we had to wait in a line to get the medals and then search for water about a half-mile from the finish. To get to our drop bags, we had to wade through a huge crowd of spectators nearly a mile from the finish. They should separate the spectators from the runners until the runners have a chance to pick up their stuff. The race course was pretty easy, except for that insane killer hill before the finish.

With the huge number of runners the course was very narrow at times. There really should be a "special lane" for all of the walkers. An etiquette sheet would be a great idea. There is no reason why walkers need to walk side by side, sometimes in groups of 4 or 5, thus blocking the course from people who are actually running the marathon. Why did so many "runners" stop running once they reached mile 20? Did you realize this was a 26.2 mile race? You still had 10K to go. Seriously, either train for a marathon or go run a 30K instead so that you don't hurt yourselves.

It took me 15 minutes to get out of the metro station, which was located way too far away from the starting line. The race was crowded, and the finishing was a mess. You have to wait in line for ten minutes before you get food or water.

The course is awesome and the spectators are fantastic. I loved running it, but the crowds are not worth it.

I walked over a mile to meet-up area only to find a concrete curb squished in with other runners looking for friends and family. We runners want to lie down in the grass and reflect, not be subjected to rush-hour conditions.

I had a great time at this marathon. This is my second marathon. I set a PR here this year. The course is very good, albeit a little boring towards the end. the marines were great. Good organization. Free beer! I read the comments from the past runners, and I must say, that helped with my planning.

Great course, fans and expo. I like that this race does not offer prize money. I do not believe paid athletes bring much to the race. Food at the end could be better and going with TECH shirts would be nice. I think parking a mile from the finish and walking in is the best way to fight the crowds. Thanks to the worker at the EXPO who gave me this advice. My son who is in the class of 2011 at the Naval Academy, and who ran the race with me, wanted to say, "Thank you, Marines - GREAT JOB." We will always remember this run!

No bathrooms for at least 15 miles during the race.

Getting to my car at Crystal took another three-mile walk. However, we could have waited hours for a ride.

The arrangement of the finish did not bring you by the Marine Memorial. This is not acceptable.

I ran this marathon last year, traveling over especially from the UK. I thought it was magnificent and get frustrated that it gets so little coverage compared to New York, Boston and Chicago. A marathon route right through the heart of your capital city - awesome views - and unbeatable motivational support from the military! Come on, American marathoners, this is one all of you should run!
