"New Favorite Small Town Race!" (about: 2018)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Bryan/College Station Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 3

This was my first time running in College Station and I plan on being a repeat runner, for sure! Everything around the race - logistics, course quality, support - was extremely well organized and executed.

The course, itself, was one of my favorites that I have run, both from a scenery and course profile perspective. The rolling hills are a perfect amount of elevation change to give some variability to the profile and allow for some good speed turnover on the downhills. The second half is also primarily downhill and comes back into the A&M campus which really gives you a great boost for the final miles!

Unfortunately, the day was pretty cold and windy, so that probably thinned out the crowds, somewhat. The spectators who did come out though were very fun, made signs, and even set up some of their own cheer stands/sections!

Overall - absolutely great race atmosphere! Small race with all the comforts of a well-organized and executed race. I would highly recommend to any marathoner.

"Had an awesome time" (about: 2018)

This was my very first half marathon, and this was for sure the best event to run at for one's first big race. The day before the race at packet pickup they had many vendors that were selling compression sleeves, running socks, shoes, shirts, jackets, certain supplements etc., I bought a pair of socks which were so comfortable and for the fist time I did not get any blisters on my feet (5 K's I usually would get blisters wearing other socks). Everything was very well organized, there were refreshments and food such as bananas, oranges, gummy bears, etc set up every few miles. They handed out napkins, and wipes. There were porta potties available maybe 3 or 4 times during the race, which was nice, and enough toilet paper, I stopped twice to use the restroom during the race. There were individuals that held a pacer sign to keep runners on track based off of what time (for instance hour 3 of the race) they wanted to finish the race. I kept up with one of the pacers for the majority of the race, until my legs started getting very fatigued. I was just happy I was able to keep up with the pacer for most of the race, walking and jogging on and off. There were many people (from very young children to elderly adults) on the sides of the roads cheering all the runners on with signs, some played music, even a lot of the cops were cheering the runners on. A lot of people stood outside there homes in the cold to cheer us on (it was pretty cold outside). The cops were awesome during the entire race, a lot of streets were blocked off, and the one's that weren't blocked off there was an officer or two there directing traffic to ensure that we were as safe as possible which was very nice. At the end of the race, most of the spectators were at the finish line, and it felt so great being cheered on by everyone and getting my medal and runners jacket. Being my first time running a half marathon, my legs were done by the time I crossed the finish line and I had at least 2 or 3 of the volunteers at the end ask if I needed assistance, I didn't need assistance but just the fact they asked was pretty great. At the end of the race there was music, food (bananas, strawberry desserts, assortment of breakfast burritos, beverages, massages, etc. Overall this event exceeded my expectations, and I only planned on doing one half marathon ever, but I enjoyed it so much that I will definitely do another one next year. Thanks to this wonderful event and all of the volunteers and police officers!

"Fun race- lots of energy from everyone!" (about: 2018)

This was my first half marathon! I've never run anything more than a 5k. I was so terrified and had a lot of self doubt. Every single person at the aid stations had so much energy and were cheering. It helped more than I knew it would. When I crossed the finish line the founder was there to congratulate me and gave me a hug. It was so personable and made me felt special and like I wasn't just another number for their race. I will definitely be back next year.

Having run between 400-500 races over almost forty years of racing, I can state unequivocally that this was the single most organized event in which I have ever participated. Every single detail was attended to. From more than enough porta cans at the start to receiving a magnificent finishers hoodie, this event is a grand slam.

"My first-ever Half-Marathon and it was great!" (about: 2018)

Sunday morning was my first-ever Half-Marathon and of course it came with some nervous energy and anxiety. But, I had my personal trainer and a couple of friends from our gym there to guide me through the pre-race protocol. In the end, I had one of the greatest moments and memories ever. I can't really explain in words the feeling when I crossed the finish line, it was incredible. The spectators, volunteers, everyone from start to finish to post-race accommodations was something I'll always remember. What. A. Memory. Thank you to everyone involved!

I wish I could say I've ran all 8 years because I enjoy this race so much. Year 2 was my first half marathon race and inspired me to sign up and run other races. I love running, but needed that extra push to motivate me. This race started that for me. The race director and event coordinating team are always enthusiastic, encouraging, and extremely organized. I have enjoyed watching this race grow from year to year. The swag is always awesome and I enjoys the surprise finisher's swag too. Food, drinks, spectators, event team, and more are all why I come back to this race year after year. The course has plenty of spectators. The volunteers at the water/aid stations always help and cheer runners on. Law enforcement that help direct traffic, can say enough about them. Everyone involved really help make this race happen. I will always be a part of this event for as long as I can keep running.

"My favorite race!" (about: 2018)

This race was awesome! The shirt/jacket and medal are fantastic and high quality. The end of the race activities and food were great. The course was flat and provided a great run through the town. This is my favorite race to run! Really liked the Expo too. The only reason the race organization gets 3 stars from me is the transfer method. I chose to transfer from the marathon to the half marathon on the day of the deadline. It was very confusing and difficult to log into my portal and figure out how to transfer, and it didn't go through properly. In the future I would like to have seen a more efficient online system for registering and transferring races. They also 'cancelled' my transfer but then still charged me for the transfer. It caused a lot of stress but thankfully the race coordinator helped me out in the end and I was able to make the switch. So overall the race was great but a few things I would like to see improvement on!

This race is perfection! The course is perfect, a few hills, great scenery, love running through Texas A&M, and the support from volunteers is tops! The finisher's medals and gear are the best! Water stops and Gatorade stops throughout the race are awesome and perfectly spaced. The number of port-o-potties at the start line really allows for a "no wait" time to go! All of the details- it's just perfect!

My first marathon and it was a blast, it hurt I won't lie but it was all worth it. The training plan helped prepare me a ton, as well as the weekly emails with info from hydration to nutrition to warm ups!
