"Great race! I will be back!" (about: 2011)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

Was my first experience at a marathon. Was a great one as well! Everything went smoothly and the amount of spectators was much more than I expected. The town is smaller than most, but many people still came to show their support. The town really helped out to make this thing be as amazing as it was. Chris put together an excellent race and I will most certainly be back for years to come!

That this race was a 'first', it is remarkable how well it was put together. There were no visible hiccups that I was aware of. The volunteers and spectators were just great! The course was relatively flat, and the aid stations and water/facilities were plentiful.

I was extremely impressed with the race. Everything went smoothly from the start to the finish. The aid stations were well manned and equipped. The half-marathon course was great for beginners. Spectators were few and far between but all extremely supportive. Thanks for putting volunteers throughout the route to make up for the absence of a lot of spectators. I don't know if there were any pre-race refreshments available, but something to keep in mind for future events. Overall very impressed!!

There was nothing negative about this marathon. This small race was well organized. There were lots of cheering people even at the water stations. And the medal was really nice. I will be back.

This was my first run, but I can't say enough about how smoothly everthing went. Packet pick up was a breeze and the course was fun. The after race entertainment/food/drinks can't be beat!

Course layout was excellent. Topography was gentle, support tables were plentiful. Spectators were encouraging us the whole way.

"Inspiring personal dedication of the organizers" (about: 2011)

Very outstanding dedication of the organizers (experienced marathoners) to making this an outstanding inaugural marathon. Plenty of information provided and questions answered via Facebook. Friendly police and volunteers at all intersections to allow safe, uninterrupted running. Most of the course was not overly scenic, but the road surfaces were good with no chip seal surfaces that I recall. The uphills were not hard, and the downhills seemed wonderfully long. Enthusiastic spectators were yelling encouragement throughout the race. The weather was perfect, in the 40's. The race started on time, and there seemed to be enough port-a-potties at the start area to handle the crowd (maybe could have used a few more for shorter lines as start time approached). Aid stations every 1.5 miles with plenty of happy, helpful volunteers handing out water and Gatorade cups; 2 or more port-a-potties every 3 miles; volunteers handing out small cups of Gummy Bears each 5 miles or so; noticed at least one group handing out bananas and maybe other stuff; numerous medical stations along the route; and handmade mileage markers each mile, plus other encouraging and funny signs along the way. No way to accidentally get off the course due to signs and volunteers. Chip times at 13.1 and 20 miles. Same day posting of prelim results online. PR for half and full distances. Tasty free BBQ sandwich and beer/water at the finish. Overall, a very well run and enjoyable race that obviously placed optimum priority on the health and safety of the runners and that supported a wonderful charity. I'll be back next year.

"Stellar race!" (about: 2011)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I went into the race without any questions. Chris communicated very well. I enjoyed the beautiful route we took. The Bryan/College Station area is very peaceful. The weather was perfect and the aid stations/hydration stations were placed perfectly. You can have all the right things, but if it is not managed well, then the race will suffer, and Chris Field did a great job managing/directing the race. I am well pleased.

"Great race too many hills say rolling hills" (about: 2011)

Great race! Organization was phenominal! Police officers were awesome. They were kind and encouraging as we were running and always stopped traffice as were approaching the intersection! Plz think about having finishing t shirts next year. Also have one t shirt for the marathon and one for the half marathon. I am really slow and the t shirt is my trophy. Have the tech shirt for finishers and a t shirt for check in or vice versa. Great course! There were not a lot of spectators but the ones that were on the course were wonderful! OMG the volunteers. They were the best! I would like to suggest more 'stuff' at the expo - t-shirts shorts etc.. and t-shirts with the BCS logo on it.I will be back next year to run the marathon again. Maybe a description of the course as flat was a bit deceiving maybe it could be stated as gently rolling hills?? Also think about using local new businesses like New Republic beer and have more food. I did not get any BBQ. suggestion - the ones like me at the end need the food. Have the half marathoners at one tent and their food portioned out and the marathoners at another tent and their food portioned out. You have the numbers in each group for the marathoners and half marathoners and that will ensure everyone will get a plate.
