I was a 6-hour pacer for this race, and I finished two minutes too early. I had a pleasant day in the sun, and got to visit with many interesting people as I ran. What more could I ask for? I look forward to returning in 2007, and I will continue to recommend this race to others.

My hat's off to you and your staff for putting on a great race. I really enjoyed the course and love the two-loop concept. I felt a lot more energy on the course this year compared to last year. It had all the conveniences of a hometown race, but the excitement of a large-scale marathon. Thanks again.

Fast, flat track, and not too much exposure to ocean wind. Nice perks. BUT crowd support was great at the start/finish, across the street at 5/18, and just a few other areas. Mostly a very lonely run. I must say the volunteers were great, and this is a well stocked race for water and fuel. It also seems like a great race for starting marathon running or trying to get to Boston. Nice weather didn't hurt. Finish was a little weird for me - instead of offering congratulations, a guy said, "Do you want a medal?" as I jogged off. I saw others with shirt and hats; I guess I went to the wrong man at the finish, but the bottom line is that I would highly recommend this run. Oh, just don't have the walkers start early; they were really in the way.

This was my first NJ Marathon in doing all 50 states, and it was nice to run my home state. Too bad I cramped like a son of a gun at mile 19.... Oh well. The organization was well run, water stops had lots of cheering volunteers, and all who worked the marathon were nothing but exceptional. I just may have to run this one again!

I enjoyed the pasta dinner, the talk by Katherine Switzer, and the finisher's medal - and the hat was a nice bonus. I came down for the weekend and never had to leave the hotel neighborhood. I ran in the half, and having course marshals at every turn is great.

First things first, the organization was fantastic. I was very happy with the changes from last year's course. The looped course was more scenic and gave more views of the ocean than last year's course. It also allowed the spectators see their runners more than once. My family was able to see me four times and they didn't have to move far to do so. All of the staff and all of the volunteers were very supportive and energetic. There were parts of the course that didn't have that many spectators, but that didn't bother me much since all of my training runs didn't have spectators. I run because I like the solitude, and this course offered a good combination of both. The weather was beautiful, except for a headwind that developed during the stretches along the coast, but that is to be expected if there is a breeze off the ocean. I would recommend this marathon to anyone. I am glad that I ran it and I would love to run it again next year.

I gave it four stars only because I think running completely flat is a little more difficult than hills, which is what I train on where I live. The people were awesome - about a million great volunteers. Very well organized. Tons of water stops. The picture perfect weather was a real nice treat, too! RUN THIS RACE!!!

Art Castellano truly made every runner feel at home. Great crowds, great residents, and overall, a fantastic experience. This was my very first full length marathon and I am so glad to have chosen this marathon - to be the first of many. Go NJRRC, you guys were great. And now I'm going to start training for the Philly Half and the 2007 Philadelphia Triathlon. Once again, thanks to everyone from Long Branch for giving us the chance to run free.

At a regular marathon, I have to remember where to find the gel or fruit, if they were provided at all. But most fluid stations at NJ provided fruit, and Miles 9 & 22 had lots of cookies and candies - I didn't need to remember anything. NJ also provided cola at Mile 22, which was life-saver.

To a stomach always upset by the water, sport drink, and gel, NJ is unbelievable.

The people at fluid stations were great and it seemed like the whole town came out to cheer.

Running on Ocean Ave. with those cars really gave me a boost.

"My 1st marathon, but was very impressed!!!" (about: 2006)

This was my first marathon, but, wow, what an experience. And I am so glad I picked this one to try. It was, as advertised: flat, flat, flat. And it was great to begin and finish on the water. The weather was amazing. Perfect. The volunteers, pre-race communication, fuel/beverages/goodies during the run and overall organization were excellent. I think this is a BIG plus, especially for someone who is new to running a marathon. Although I would have enjoyed more spectators, and I am sure it would have helped, the Long Branch residents and others who were there were very enthusiastic.

I would like to make a very pointed comment on the race volunteers on bicycles. There were volunteers cycling among us during the run and they were FANTASTIC, especially at the end, at mile 20+. They had water, fuel/gel, sun screen, all kinds of things. I was so comfortable having them there, and they were very helpful, yet did not interfere with my running. I felt that if I had needed anything, they would be there to help out. They added a certain "personal touch" feeling to the experience. Also, the race shirt is great. It is made of a high tech running shirt fabric and has an excellent design.

All in all, I highly recommend this race. I think I am hooked and will try again!
