This was my first Pig and I was VERY impressed with the overall course, organization and fan support, as well as the expo, medal (one of the best)and shirt. My only complaint (and a minor one at that) is that I had to dodge a lot of walkers during the first 1/2 mile of the race. This and the hills during the first half of the marathon probably reduces the chances of PRing. I will be back.

There is no other Expo to compare with this one easy, great 'gifts,' terrific shirt couldn't have been better. Although the race directors couldn't control the weather, it was absolutely perfect and allowed the runners to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The hills were challenging but not impossible, and the water/Gatorade stops were plentiful. If that wasn't enough, there was a hose (it was pretty hot out there), oranges, M&M's, beer (!), animal crackers, and much more to make the run enjoyable. I have wanted to run this for 9 years after 14 other marathons, I can say this was probably my favorite!

"Love the venue, wish it were more walker friendly" (about: 2007)

I have walked for charity in 4 marathons and two halves. I have completed San Diego's Rock and Roll, San Francisco's Runners World, 2 Pigs and 2 half marathons in Oregon and Nashville and was very disappointed last year and this year that there was absolutely nothing at the finish line for those walkers finishing in 6 and a half hours and up.

All of the above mentioned venues at least had some food leftover at the finish and San Diego had the bands out at least through 12:30. I know the races tend to cater to runners but it would be nice to be welcomed at the finish and supported along the way. The spectators thinning out can't be helped but it would have been a shot in the arm to at least have a band or two past mile 16 stay out and motivate us.

This was my 3rd running of the Flying Pig and my 4th marathon. I love this race! The crowd support is awesome, the volunteers at the expo and on the course are the best and the race organization is great. Running this race in my hometown makes me feel very proud to be a Cincinnatian. The city is beautiful. I love the course. I PR'd this time around with a 4:15:29. All in all, this race is absolutely the best! Can't wait for next year! Hope to see you in Cincy!

A colleague of mine is well on his way to completing 50 in 50. I asked him several months ago about which marathon he would do again. His instantaneous reply the Pig. I was NOT disappointed. This is a superbly organized race. There is plenty of everything potties, fan support, good karma. The fans from 23 into the city are so with you. They seem to know where the mind is at after 20 + miles. The expo was laid out well and the goodies . . . . WOW! A poster, backpack, quality tech shirt, on and on. Run this marathon! The course is challenging; the terrain varies every few miles. I hit the wall at 19 / 20, but this is accounted for by my lack of focus Keep your head together and 20 to 26.2 can be enjoyable. The fluid stops were reliable and well stocked. In searching for a suggestion for improvement . . . . there is none! THANK YOU CINCINNATI!

The comments already posted say it all.... What a great event! I just wanted to add what a kick I got out of all the "pig" terminology! The "Finish Swine," the "Grunts" (volunteers), the "Piglet" diaper dash... it just goes on and on! I've run 19 other marathons (so far), but this one really stood out for its spirit of fun and frivolity! How can you not smile when the person handing you water has a pig nose on?! We marathoners sometimes take ourselves too seriously, and this race gives you permission to have fun!

This was my first marathon experience. I ran a 3:26 and had a great experience. The course is great: considerable inclines from miles 6-9, but you go back down in the last 4 or 5 miles. Great crowds; great volunteers; more water stops than there are miles; and there were nearly 70 different entertainment sources on the course as well.... Everything from church choirs to Elvis to a band playing Staind. Great city; great race. Sooner or later it is a must-run.

"not a flat course" (about: 2007)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 3  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This event was run well, as many have stated. If you are trying for Boston, this is not an easy qualifier. Pacing is difficult due to hills. If you are trying to qualify, leave a little extra time for mile 25.... It's a tough mile when you are already tired. Great race!!! It was awesome to not have to wait at all for porta-potties before the race!!!!

"Great Marathon!!! This one is a must do!" (about: 2007)

Hills, Bridges, Parks, Fast finishing flats with scenic Ohio river view (4 miles), Nice size crowds who are very motivating and supportive. Beautiful downtown area and Northern KY. is great. Gatorade, water and port-a-potties every mile!!!! You name it this ones got it. I've done this marathon 5 times and will continue. They have a 5k, 10k, 1/2 and full marathon. Over 17,000 runners in all in 2007. If you don't plan to do this one you must not like having a great time running because you are cheating yourself. Oh, did I mention 17,000 runners and they don't offer any prize money. Must tell you something doesn't it?

"Very Hilly, Great race, but don't overhype" (about: 2007)

11-50 previous marathons | 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

Pros:
1. very organized from expo to finish
2. flawless execution on water stands and overall course control
3. good crowd support most of the course (I was somewhat surprised by this)
4. pretty course (with exception of the highway portion)
5. small # of full marathoners (I lined up at my pace and crossed the start line actually running in under 30 seconds)

Con:
1. over sells and under delivers- this race is hyped as one of the best marathons in the world but in reality, it is a very efficiently run race with little pomp and circumstance
2. post-race stuff was non-existent- I finished, got my medal, a water, a banana and was ushered out the back and on my way home. No real post race celebration, damn sure no beer(!), very minimal food, etc. Somewhat of a let down for what is pitched as a mega-marathon experience (competing with NYC, Chicago, etc.).
3. Course is hilly!! Please do not buy the statement from anyone that the hills are in the first part and then it is down hill. This course has hills throughout the course. Agreed that the most massive are in the first 1/3 but the entire course has elevation rises and declines...it is an absolute quad-buster. This in and of itself is not bad, but do not be mislead, the course is extremely hilly (especially for a flatlander).
4. No finisher t-shirt?! Again, this has come to be expected for top flight events (or events charging top flight rates)...plus this year's shirt left much to be desired. This marathon is unique for its kitsch factor (pigs everywhere). This year's shirt looked like every other 5k. Damn it, this is the flying pig, I want pigs on my shirt!!

All in all, this was a very well put on race, but please do not sign up thinking it is on the level of NYC, Chicago, DC, etc. Great race that is well supported by the city, just need to put some polish on the Pig.
