The course was scenic and not too difficult, the water/Gatorade stops were at every mile, and there were lots of cheering spectators. I'm very happy I picked the "Pig" as my first marathon - I missed my time goal- but the race itself was great and very well organized.

I ran this on my birthday because I wanted to run a fun marathon on my day. I was not disapointed. The spectators were very supportive and there were lots of them. I loved having Gatorade at each mile. Plenty of port-a-potties, which is a nice change from the last one I did. The course was challenging with the hills, but definitely doable. The weather could not have been more perfect. The band at the pasta party was very good as were the bands on the course. Thanks to the organizers for a job well done as well as to all the Grunts who were were not only helpful, but unfailingly pleasant.

I suppose The Pig can't take credit for the weather and it was a perfect day for a run. There was lots of Gatorade on the course and it tasted real. The spectators were great! I almost stopped at the beer table but thought with 6-7 miles to go, it might hurt my time. My only complaint (and there always has to be one) was the finish. Partly due to my disorientation but mostly due to the number of people in the finish area, I didn't find the bagels and the bananas were a little green. I prefer to be herded through a shoot filling a bag with stuff rather than the open buffet style. However, this was my first large marathon so perhaps this is a better fit for the mass of people. Flatten up some of those hills and I'll be back.

All in all, a super marathon. I was able to see so many parts of the city. The course was rolling, as stated, and actually after mile 9, was "downhill." Super support from the residents and the water stations were well equipped.

First Marathon

The 2007 Flying Pig was my very first marathon ever. I don't recommend it for runners who are new to running and are running their 1st marathon. It is very hilly. The three bridges at the very beginning and the 3-mile incline after that are very challenging if you are not in shape. The city was great and the support from the locals was awesome. I didn't even turn on my MP3 player for the 1st half of the marathon because the cheering from the locals was so encouraging. The race was well organized. The expo was nice too. I purchased several items there. The best thing about this marathon is the support and cheering from the local people. Cincinnati stood out on this one very well.

This marathon was great; there were plenty of spectators cheering you on. The music and themes were exciting. The water stop were always well supplied with Gatorade or water. Very little wait or none at all for restrooms. Highly recommend this race. Weather was very refreshing and the sights were beautiful. Run this - it is a must!

This is definitely a must-do marathon! Wow! Wow! Wow! Excellent organization and volunteers were very friendly and helpful! I loved the total energy of the race. Also, there were plenty of water stops and porta-potties! I also think that the 4:30 pacer did a very good job that I had lots of gas and finished at 4:27. Great job!!! Great city!!! Thank you for making my marathon experience felt so special!!!

"A good course - very fair. Good organization." (about: 2007)

We had a great day for May 6, 2007. I am a local but running my first Flying Pig. The course offers its hills early, before the 12-mile mark, and it is very fair the rest of the way. The course starts downtown in Cincinnati and then goes over the Ohio River to Kentucky - crossing one bridge and returning over another. The Ohio is a wide river. Then the course leaves downtown Cincinnati again and proceeds into the hills (Mt. Adams), then some nice historic villages (Hyde Park and Marrimont). Plenty of water/Gatorade and fan support was even better then anticipated. It is a young marathon, only 9 years old, but is the fastest growing... so other people must like it as well. Give it a go!

"MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE MARATHON" (about: 2006)

What can I say about this marathon? It was the most enjoyable experience in a marathon that I have ever had. First the expo was great. It was easy as 1, 2, 3 to get your number, chip, and souvenirs. This race gave you so much stuff with your registration - I was amazed. More stuff than Boston, and it was half the price. Since it was the Flying Pig Marathon, they had statues of pigs all through the expo. My daughter loved them. This was the first marathon I took her to and to this day she insists we are going to Cincinatti again. It was nice having a ferry take us across the river to the starting line where we could hang out in the Bengals football stadium while we waited. There were plenty of bathrooms to use there and the lines went quickly. Once the race started it was enjoyable from the minute I started to the minute I finished. I was a little nervous because the first half of the race is not flat. But I loved it.... I found the 3:20 pace group and ran with them for a few miles and then caught up to the 3:10 group, which helped me run an eight-minute PR. The course was great, the fans were spectacular, the miles and time clocks were very noticeable.... I honestly don't have any complaints about this at all. Even the post-race party was spectacular. I would recommend this race to everyone. I promise that you will have the time of your life.

Good marathon, challenging course and the best medal. Expo disappointing. Water on the course was so over chlorinated that it almost made me vomit the one and only time I drank water on the course - like swimming-pool water. Had a friend that was hurt and needed a wheelchair to get to the medical tent. Couldn't get one for some time because there were so few and they were all at the finish line.
