This was my first marathon, and barring the partial stress fracture I got about a month before, it went great. Tons of support from the city, and great music. Does get lonely from about 15-22 with fewer bands and nearly no spectators when running by the Cumberland, but the finish is a whirlwind. Never been happier.

The Country Music Marathon is good time with great organization and a great town to party in afterwards. A word of warning though: the race course is tougher than I expected, with rolling hills, and in '06 it got pretty hot. Overall, we loved it and honky-tonked all night.

I have ran this race the last 3 years and plan to do it again in '08. I am a 1/2 marathon runner and this race definitely caters to the 1/2. There is crowd support and music through all 13.1 miles but I heard it's pretty scarce for the full. This hills aren't terribly bad, mostly rolling, but there is always a giant crowd at the finish line, which makes it all worthwhile!

I had a serious injury a few weeks before the marathon and it was recommended that I not run it. I was feeling stronger so just plodded through it. I enjoyed all of it and was pleasantly surprised at all the fan and community support. The organization was terrific. The city great fun and the course very scenic. I had a blast. Thanks Nashville!

"Organized, constant rolling/hilly, and hot" (about: 2007)

I ditto several other comments: about the decent overall organization, the earlier congestion due to so many 1/2 marathoners, the lack of any water or sports drink at the start, and the request to PLEASE ditch Accelerade... yuck!

Given that I now live in the Pacific Northwest (transplant from southern CA), I'm not used to the sun much anymore - especially in late winter/early spring. The one comment I must make that others from the southern states are not making is that this course, especially the 1/2-half, has practically no shade and this year it was near 90 degrees. If you are not used to that amount of sun or temperature in your training, then you need to take note. I'm completely thankful to the Bullfrog instant dry that I caked on because I saw MANY lobsters at the finish! I was completely on target pace for the first half until we split and started along the river and *bam* you're facing direct sun, no shade, and it was hot (in my opinion of course!).

The course was more hilly than I expected in the sense that they seemed like they never ended. None were steep; it just seemed constant.

Like the other comments below, the fan support was great, but far less on the 1/2 half, which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5.

Overall, I had a great time and enjoyed the city a lot. I'd do this run again if the drink was different and I was better prepared for the sun and temps.

"Great for 13.1, not for 26.2" (about: 2007)

This is a very easy course physically if you have trained on hills at all. There are lots of rolling hills, but no major killers. I PR'd by 16 minutes on this course. BUT the 2nd half of this course is a BIG mental challenge.

My main criticism is that this event is really catered to the HALF marathoners. Out of 32K people at the start, only 4,500 were doing the full. So... you get to mile 11 and all of a sudden everyone goes the other way and you are pretty much by yourself for the second half.

Everything seemed sparse on the 2nd half, spectators, bands, aid stations, medical support. If you have trained alone this may not be so hard, but if you are used to running with a team or group, this can be a mental challenge.

I have nothing against half marathons; I do them too sometimes, but after doing this race I've decided that I will never do another 26.2 course where they offer a 13.1 option.

"Great FUN Marathon" (about: 2007)

The marathon is absolutely a blast; tons to do the days before and after, and a great concert (Sara Evans this year).

Great crowd support, and a good course - about as flat as you can expect from Nashville.

I will mention the first 3 miles were too crowded to get to and try and hold any pace. It is hard to figure out how walkers could get into a 8:15 pace group.

Will do again it again, a few times I hope.

"Hilly...but a great experience!" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon and it was everything I hoped it would be. I live in Florida, so this was a very hilly course for me. The weather couldn't have been better as far as I'm concerned (about 55 degrees at the start and mostly overcast throughout). I will schedule other marathons so that I can do this one again. The city was great and the race was well organized. I also liked the Accelerade which I couldn't find anywhere near me before the race. Thanks to Nashville for a great weekend!

Ran this last year, came back this year and will be back next. A fun race in a fun city. Well done!

Nothing to compare it to, but it was a great experience. Most of the spectators are on the half, so it was a little lonely. I think I'll do another one.
