Beautiful way to see a different part of Savannah. Marshes and lagoons. Great organization. Well done!

I have ran this race twice. It is one of my favorite races. It is low key which I like. I love the swag you get after the marathon. It is very well organized, and also a beautiful course.

Packet Pickup:
-No race day registration/packet pickup
-No 'swag', just got the bib and a shirt (kinda disappointing)

Course:
-Elevation chart on the race website makes it look like there are elevation changes, but glance at the scale. This race was FLAT
-Nice views of the water and residential areas
-Not a lot of cheering since the area is closed off and only residents are allowed in. There were a few couples and families that waved from their porches. I don't like a lot of spectators, so I thought it was perfect.
-Golfers had some attitude about runners beside their course. Not friendly at all and apparently no speed limit for golf carts

Parking:
-Due to the shape of the course, half marathoners are driving out against marathoners finishing. Difficult maneuvering/dealing with traffic at the end of a race...

Miscellaneous
-The people keeping time really did not have it together. My name wasn't on the print out that was posted and I went to the tent to ask about it (just to make sure my chip was working) and there was a line of people asking about why their name wasn't posted or why their time was off.
-They announced your name as you cross the finish line; great touch!
-Pacers were great! Very enthusiastic, carried on conversations with other runners, excellent

"Skidaway marathon is beautiful and friendly!" (about: 2017)

Just finished running the Skidaway marathon and have to say that it is a beautiful course, and although there aren't many spectators, the ones that are there are fantastic. Skidaway island is an extremely welcoming community.

Plenty of porta potties at the start, and parking was close and easy. I was pleasantly surprised that there was Gatorade on the course- emails mentioned water only. And obviously Savannah is a fun place to be for a weekend!

PRO/CON/FINAL
Pro:
-Beautiful course tucked away on Skidaway Island. I really wasn't expecting to much but it was a fantastic route with little to no repeat.
-Community was very supportive and enthusiastic .
-7am start was perfect and even better they separated the Half and Full.
-Parking and access to the island was quick and easy. Also the course was easy for my wife to navigate in the truck so we could meet at various check points.
-Incredibly enthusiastic race director and volunteers that set the tone for a fun race.
-Well organized website and facebook group that was very responsive to questions.
CON:
- I personally felt like there should have been more water stations, Georgia humidity can be rough. Water every 2 miles should be the minimum. The water stations they had were well organized with Gatorade and water and a few GUs here and there so that was nice. but have 3 to 4 mile gaps at some points didn't seem right to me.
FINAL: This is a great race that runners of all skill levels would enjoy. I will be back next year for sure.

Great Race. No hills and beautiful scenery. Friendly people all along the way and in the field. I enjoyed every stride! :)

"A real nice small inagural race." (about: 2015)

This was an outstanding inagural event. The RDs were very active and it showed with great organization. The course is flat and runs through some lovely upscale neighborhoods. In places the fan support was great. Savannah is lovely in early spring and well worth consideration for next year.

"great director for 1st marathon" (about: 2015)

This is the first marathon I ever did that had a money-back guarantee if you had to cancel at any time. Two of our friends couldn't run the race and the got the entry fee refunded on their credit card in 2 days. The director asked for suggestions at the end of the race so some things will improve next year. There needed to be more port-a-johns at the start. Fortunately, the start was delayed until everyone got through the line. The weather was quite warm. There could have been more water stops in the second half. After the half splits off, the marathoners are really spread apart. Did not see many other runners. The race is mostly on roads and cars did not always realize a race was going on. Got stuck behind a street cleaner that was kicking up dust. Race is scenic. Very few spectators. Did not get lost so everything was well marked. Race packet pick-up was the morning of the race so did not have to arrive a day before. Small town feel to race. Will be good when island is more aware that there is a race that day. They may come out to cheer. I loved the small feel and enjoyed myself. 53rd marathon and this is one of the better ones.

"A great inagural event." (about: 2015)

50+ previous marathons | 1 Skidaway Island Marathon

This is one of the best inagural events I have ever run. The course was a large loop around Skidaway Island, near Savannah, GA. Most of the run is in very upscale neighborhoods. The fan support was surprisingly good for a small, first-time race, in a residental neighborhood. A very fast, flat course. RD is very hands-on and was very helpful for me.

"Beautiful but runners unsafe" (about: 2015)

6-10 previous marathons | 1 Skidaway Island Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 2  FANS: 2

Anyone who trains long distance should know that unless there is a sidewalk or specified lane for runners, you run against traffic. The course actually catered to people running with traffic (placement of arrows and mile markers). This was an open course and I was amazed to see runners running in the middle of the road on double yellow lines despite traffic coming! The fastest runners (shorter distance) should have started in front, but they had the marathoners start in front. So all the half marathoners had to muddle through us and we had the mental 'down' that comes from being passed by so many runners. Also, paid same price as other marathons but no goody bags or refreshments at end... At the very least we would have benefited from bug spray and sunscreen. My recs for goody bags include that and runner safety guide. Not to mention some other stuff. Not many spectators and is there not a speed limit for golf carts?!? Beautiful houses but very few people out. The community did not seem too aware or involved.
