Great crowd support, the aid stations were well-stocked & the kids handing out the medals at the finish were beautiful. That really just made the race for me.

This is my favorite race each year and it keeps getting better! Wonderful and helpful staff, great pre-race communications and the special touches that go above and beyond. In addition, all profits benefit a great group of charities.

I just ran the half. Given the very cold weather, I was impressed with all of the volunteers and spectators who came out. This is a well run program! The race director and his team went out of their way to accommodate runners from the cancelled Dallas PCS Marathon. Very nice!

I was not up to completing a half or a full marathon, but Chris and crew offered a 10K or 5K relay options this year, which gave me the chance to experience part of the course, fans and organizational expertise. The race also benefits at least two local charities in addition to Mercy Project, which is helping children in great need.

"First Marathon Was Great" (about: 2013)

This was my first marathon, and it was great. The course is very interesting and goes through many different types of neighborhoods before making its way all over Texas A&M campus. The groups that line the course were encouraging and the themes were silly enough to keep you going.

My only complaint is that the first half of the marathon course was a bit boring & had a small stretch of running on the shoulder of a hwy. Running thru the university on the back half and the AMAZING post race spread more than made up for that. great race directors that really put on a special event. i loved it.

"This is my first Full Marathon and it's EPIC!!" (about: 2013)

First Marathon
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first full Marathon and it was a great experience running in my hometown with very supportive people. I trained for 7 months and I sprained my left ankle while squatting one week before the race. Then race day came and still with a swollen ankle I decided to still do it even my wife and my brother in the Philippines won't let me. I told them, I trained for seven months and I don't want to waste all the time and effort and my wife's effort watching our kids and doing errands while I was training. I started really slow at 10-11:00 pace coz I was feeling the pain on my left ankle.

I ran w/ a co-worker who was carrying the American flag for the first two miles until the numbing cold starts to ease out the pain. Then, I increased my pace to 9:00/mile and started praying the Holy Rosary. I got done praying at mile 4 then I just felt good, there's pain but tolerable. I continued running fine w/ varying pace at 8:00-9:00 and only pushed hard to 6:50 on the hilly part and it was awesome until I hit mile 20. The pain started to come back and my brain was telling me to stop and rest. but I kept going. the pain slowed me down but I didn't quit. If not for the amazing group of crowd giving you motivational chants every water stop I might have quitted already. I had one nice lady open my energy bar for me coz my hands are so painfully numb.My left hip was burning in pain coz I was shifting my weight more on my right leg and left quads, that's why it took all of the beating. I didn't got scared of me getting my injury worse coz every 1.5 miles there's a medical team assigned. From mile 21 to the finish line that is where I struggled the most.

Every hydration stop I passed, I stopped. While hydrating, I stretched my legs and loosened up. During my training I did alot of speed intervals and tempos so I recovered quickly. . maintaining this strategy helped me avoid the dreaded part of running a Marathon. 'hitting the wall'. But my pace really slowed down to 11:00. I was maintaining my average pace at 8:52 then it started creeping up to 8:59 at mile 24. The farthest training run I did was 21 miles at 8:19 pace and 13.1 at 7:39. But w/ an injury, I did'nt even think of doing it. But I'm still glad I held that 8:59 average pace. If I wasn't injured I was shooting for 3:45. but I think this is not the right time for me to do it. I was really yearning to keep it at sub 4 hours even w/ an injury but w/ the pain I endured, I finished in 4:00:22 Placing 29th in my age group and 294 of 921 finishers. Average finish time for that race was 4:30:00. I thanked the Lord and Mama Mary that I finished even w/ an injury, I realized my finish time wasn't to bad at all. I felt like a badass runner. My wife was so happy and my friends and relatives as well. I am so happy I did my first Marathon in Bryan/College Station. The race Director Chris Field along w/ hus team did a good job of organizing, facilitating, and supporting the runners in this race. Lots of food at the finish line. Lots of goodies in the swag bag for every runner and the medal is so big and beautiful! I can't wait for next year to sign up again. Now I'm proud to brag that, I AM A MARATHONER!

"Had a great time despite the freezing weather!" (about: 2013)

4-5 previous marathons | 1 Bryan/College Station Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

The organizers did a wonderful job keeping us informed of any last minute changes due to inclement weather! Great job on that! I ran the half marathon and the course itself was really nice and I loved the enthusiasm of the A&M students and spectators despite the freezing cold! I also enjoyed looking at the painted mile markers and just had a good time. I don't think I will run this race again because I like to try other races; however, I will definitely recommend it to my friends.

"Nice Small Race with Big Race Perks" (about: 2013)

6-10 previous marathons
COURSE: 5  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

I love doing smaller races except that they are often less organized and have less perks. The BCS Marathon was the exception to that notion! This was a very well-organized race. The swag was great, the volunteers were all so cheerful and helpful, the post-race food was superb, and the finishers medal was one of the nicest I've received (right up there with my Ironman medal). I only ran the half this time, so I can only speak of that course, which was excellent... Nice and flat (though quite a bit of concrete and brick roads, which is unavoidable in this town). The only minor improvements I'd suggest are: 1. Indicate the brand of the finishers shirt when registering (the sizing is different, esp. for women). 2. Have the finishers shirt tables more obvious when you finish (make the tables go across so you have to go around them). Very minor things. I plan to come back and may bring more than just the 2 friends I brought this time! I rated spectators as a 4 just because there weren't many, but that's because of the weather. The ones out there were very spirited and much appreciated.
