COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 This was my first experience with the Flying Pig. I've done seven other marathons so I have something to compare. The Pig was well organized and very well supported. I am a walker and had ample time to finish. There was support throughout the course. The expo was great. The weather was good. The course was well marked, and there was outstanding police support. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I enjoyed Cincinnati and highly recommend this marathon. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 The weather was perfect. The start was crowded and there were a lot of half-marathoners and relay teams, but it was a great marathon. Super-friendly staff. Challenging course. Excellent aid stations. I recommend this one to everybody. | |

COURSE: 3 ORGANIZATION: 1 FANS: 5 Crowd support is good and always will be. Runners get a lot for the cost, BUT... they have a half-marathon, 5K, 10K, relay and pump and run in addition to the marathon. It comes down to being money-hungry. Nothing else. Not good. The finish was confusing with the marathoners and half marathoners finishing at the same chute. If I run a 3:00 marathon, I dont want to be finishing with a 3:00 half marathoner. Same thing for 2:30, 4:00... doesn't matter. Get rid of the half and have the marathon as the marquee event like it used to be. Disaster. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 This is my 5th and favorite marathon so far. Much had to do with the perfect weather (avg. in the 50's during race). I loved the course, despite miles 6-8 being uphill; the rest I would say was rolling downhill. I live in the Texas hill country, so to me they weren't bad, and definitely nothing compared to San Francisco. Enthusiastic crowds; water, Gatorade and potties every mile all made it good. And it certainly didn't hurt my race experience to have a PR here (even beat Freescale Austin)!!! Next time I'll bring the family; lots for the kids to do - Newport Aquarium and Cincinnati Zoo were great. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 2006 was my first Flying Pig. It was really a positive experience. The very challenging course really showed Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky to good advantage. And there were so many twists and turns -- over bridges, crossing rivers, up hills, on a bike path, through parks and old (really old) and new neighborhoods that it was always interesting (except the last 5 miles or so were a bit of a drag). Pretty good crowd support - the people along the route seemed to be proud of the grand tour of the Queen City that the marathon offered. Good expo, good goodies, good finish area. Beautiful city and a lot of fun. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 I was very eager to run this race and I was very pleased with the race and organization. The course is rolling, but there was one good hill in it. If you train in a flat area the course rolls will seem like mountains, coming from Birmingham and the Mercedes Marathon, to me the course is just rolling! The only complaints I have would be adding a gel station around the 1/2 and marathon split, and one of the water stops that had Gatorade was really strong. But other than that, this race is perfect. They give a lot of stuff away. Included are: luggage bag, wind-shirt, and poster - and that's at the expo. At the finish you get a nice medal and a custom towel (plus the standard Mylar blanket). If you're looking for a good first marathon, this is probably it! | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 3 This is one of the best organized races I have ever run. They give a nice technical t-shirt, a duffle bag, and a poster to all participants. The start area was well set-up, with plenty of restrooms in the stadium. The course had water and Gatorade nearly every mile, as well as bands and cheerleaders. Yes, things were a little crowded but that is the case at all big-city marathons. The only negative experience I had was the busses back to the hotels - they were difficult to find, they only left once every 30 minutes, and they made such a big loop it took another 30 minutes to get to the Hyatt. Walking would have been much faster. I found the course to be very challenging. I would say it is only slightly easier than the Knoxville Marathon. I would recommend doing some course-specific training to get ready for that 300' climb early in the race. I regularly run on rolling hills, and my legs still felt like Jello when I got to the top of that hill! | |

COURSE: 4 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 4 As a resident of Cincinnati and long-time runner, I thought it only fair to make The Pig my first marathon experience, and I was not disappointed. I was a little hesitant about the organization, as I had been let down when running in a relay several years ago with the way many things were handled. This year, however, surpassed my expectations in every way. The expo was great, as were all of the "goodies" you got for your money. It was both efficient and informative, with a broad cross-section of the services provided and what the city has to offer in terms of health and fitness services. This year the weather was perfect, staying in the high 40's to mid 50's and slightly overcast throughout the race. Probably the best place to stay is in Northern Kentucky, and then take one of several options across the river, walk (as I did since I live only a few blocks south of the river), drive, or catch a riverboat from the Kentucky side to just below the start line. To pick this option you did have to prearrange for it at the expo. The start, to me, was well organized and I actually felt I got moving much faster than I normally do in a popular 15K that is held here annually. Aid stations were frequent and long; I do agree with a former poster here on MarathonGuide.com that said there needs to be more warning that they are approaching. There was at least one time I ran right by one before I even knew it was there. Having them every mile made it a little easier, as I could approximate where they would be by my time. There were plenty of port-o-lets, and they even had an "oasis" at mile 12 with over 20 of them set up that it didn't appear were getting much use (which left them clean for me!). This course has some hills but nothing that is insurmountable for an average runner who is properly trained. Without a doubt the best parts of the course are from miles 1-17, with miles 18-22 being a little tedious before coming back into town for the last 3 or 4 miles for the finish. The crowds may have suffered somewhat this year from the 30-minute change in start time from 0630 to 0600. It seems to me when I ran in the relay in terrible weather in 2004 that I was more impressed with the crowds than I was this year. I have to say that everyone who came out in support of the runners gave it their all and there was plenty to keep my attention since everyone seems to have a gimmick to cheer us all on. Without a doubt I would participate again and I am sure it is only going to get bigger and better. | |

COURSE: 5 ORGANIZATION: 5 FANS: 5 My 2nd Pig - wonderful. My only "criticism" is that they need MORE PORTO-JOHNS! I was still in line at 5:50, so had to make the decision to not use the facility or not run at start time... |
