"Great Race ... excellent organization" (about: 2007)

This was my first marathon ever. Great organization. As others have said, the half and the full start off at the same time. The half marathoners split at mile 11. The second half of the race is relatively quiet, which suited me. Will run it again.

First Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 5

This was my first CMM (I ran the half) and my third elite racing event. It was my favorite half marathon to date (it was my 6th). Elite Racing knows how to put on an event. Flawless organization. I read how folks don't care for the Accelerade. When I learned the Rock N Roll events serve it, I began to train with it. It tastes entirely different when mixed in mass quantities than when I make it at home. My intestines let me know about it after the race. Try it at home, you'll like it much better. The crowd support was phenomenal. I am not fond of hills and did not find the hills on this course too bad. My biggest complaint is the water stations. They are an accident waiting to happen. Wet flat waxed cups, cups rolling around. I have to walk through the water stations. The other, the fruit area. Who in their right mind thought of serving bananas?? Banana peels everywhere, the orange peels are just as dangerous. Bad bad idea serving bananas. Other than that I love this event, loved the city and the people. I will definitely do this race again.

This marathon can be divided into thirds. The first part of the run takes you through very scenic parts of Nashville. The middle leg is pretty desolate. The last part through downtown Nashville and Shelby Park is great. There is a little too much doubling back for me on this course. Hopefully, the organizers can continue to play with the course layout. The organization was fantastic. Lots of music and activity. The people in Nashville were extremely supportive. The fruit stations were a great touch. All in all, a very good event.

My husband and I just got home from a great weekend in Nashville. This was our sixth marathon, and we loved it. Our favorite so far. To organize 30,000 runners and walkers must have been a huge undertaking. We were so impressed by everything. We had zero problems. The shuttles were great. We lucked out and stayed at the Ramada Limited right across the street from the finish line. Everything at the finish line was well-organized and easy to get to. The on-course support was wonderful. The bands were great, and we really enjoyed the cheerleaders. Thanks to all the wonderful, friendly volunteers. The best thing was, of course, the race itself. We loved the course. It was hilly, but not nearly as hilly as our training. We actually found it easy since we had trained on so many hills. We were four minutes off our personal best.
Nashville was great. We highly recommend Rippy's and the honky tonks on Broadway for post-race cocktails. We also enjoyed 18 holes of golf on the Gaylord Springs Golf Course. I'll be recommending the CMM to all of our marathon running friends. Thanks for a great weekend!

"Hot and hilly, but phenomenal fans" (about: 2007)

Ran Atlanta a month ago and thought that was hilly! Nashville certainly compares in hills but the organization was second to none. Loved the expo, wave start, multiple water/energy drink stations and FANS!!! Every time I thought, "Gee, I wish I had..." the fans were there with bananas, orange slices, hard candy, jelly beans, apple slices, water... you name it! I even received a blessing from nuns mid-way through the race! Nashville is a tough course but the fans make it one that will bring runners back! Great job, Nashville!

This was my first full marathon, and all the comments about the hills had me a little worried. I heard they took some out while I was on the course. I live in Florida and trained in Clermont and had no problem with the inclines in this race. The support on the side lines was incredible!! The nuns high-fiving us was truly touching. The bands, water and medical stations were perfectly timed. Some of the cheerleaders could have put a little more effort into it. The bunny was the best. Overall the whole town seemed to be out along the entire route. From the airport to the airport, the town was incredibly welcoming to all the runners. It was covered on the local news for 2 days. Also, the expo was awesome - all kinds of free stuff! I'd recommend it to anyone.

This is my second CMM 1/2 and while it is my hometown race, it makes me want to run more and more. I am ready to try other half marathons now. I am very proud that my hometown is able to put on such an amazing event. I would like to see the walkers pushed to the back so those of us who run don't have to weave our way through those who walk. I am very pleased with my time and the overall experience.

Had a great time at the CMM. Excellent organization all around - the expo, the shuttles to the start line, the corral start, and the finishers area were all well run. I was amazed at how smooth things went considering the amount of runners (~30,000). I train in a hilly area of Virginia, and found the course to be not flat, but not too hilly either. Definitely a good race if you like to have fun in a friendly city with lots of things to do after the race. Couple of things to keep in mind are that the traffic at the expo was really bad, but being from out of town I went at the busiest time (Friday afternoon). Also, the hotels in downtown booked up really quick, so reserve a room early. We ended up staying at the Hilton Garden Inn by the airport, and it worked out fairly well. I would have preferred to stay in town, but everything was sold out. The Hilton Garden did a good job with accommodating a hotel full of runners though, with a pasta dinner on Friday night, and a nice swimming pool to relax in after the race. My only negative comment is with the Accelerade...it was horrible! Overall, I would recommend doing this race to anyone considering it...

"Fun Marathon" (about: 2007)

I liked CMM. It was my first full, but I've run many other types. I train on hills but was still impacted by elevation changes.

Recommendations for change: Accelerade was awful, as was the traffic jam getting to the parking lot to catch the shuttle (is it this way for a Titan's game?).

"Fantastic Marathon - Tough but Fun!!!" (about: 2007)

This was my first Country Music Marathon and it ranks right up there with the best I've run in (Big Sur, Flying Pig, PF Chang's Rock and Roll, New Las Vegas). Very well put together, which is expected of the Elite organization. The city (just like Cincinnati for its Flying Pig) really commits itself to the event. Fans from start to finish. Water stations throughout the run and plenty of food at the finish! The hills were tough but fair. Just be careful coming down the hill at the end of the dam....
