I love this race. Awesome place, awesome director, awesome charities! This is my second year to run and I will be back year after year! I have tears at the finish line seeing all those beautiful children's faces!

"Superb Marathon!" (about: 2013)

When I first signed up for this marathon, I saw that they were marketing it as the Best Rated Marathon in Texas (according to Marathonguide.com). I raised my eyebrow at that initially. But, I was curious to give it a try to see for myself.

Needless to say I was skeptical& but no longer.

Ive run the Cowtown Marathon in Ft. Worth (twice), and the Houston Marathon (once). Without a doubt the BCS Marathon was my favorite of the three.

The organization for this race was superb. Chris Field, the race organizer, did an absolutely fantastic job of keeping everybody informed on the weather situation leading up to race day. He even was able to extend invitations to many people that had signed up for the Dallas Marathon (which had to be cancelled due to ice storms). The water and aid stations were plentiful, as well as periodic handouts of Gu, Bananas, Brownies, oranges, and whatever else you could possibly want.

The Course was fantastic. It starts through some scenic roads in the Bryan-College station area, before looping around through the Traditions Golf course, Research Park, the George Bush presidential library, the North Gate bar district, and then the Texas A&M campus. Running through campus was definitely the best part of the race, and I liked that the course saved the college campus until the later miles, to give great scenery to distract from thinking about tired legs. Overall, the course had a few hills here and there, but nothing that should give anyone too much trouble.

Crowd support started off a bit spotty, but really picked up during the later miles. Student organizations have really started to get behind the race, and come out in large numbers to support. I ran a conservative race (around 10:30 minute mile splits) and it was nice to see how energetic and fun the spectators were, even though the majority of runners had already passed through. I stopped to take a picture with Santa Claus at mile 19, and even chest bumped an energetic spectator at mile 22. To say that I fed of the energy of the crowd would be an understatement!

Of all the races Ive ever run, Ive never been more proud to support a charity than I felt at this race. The Mercy Project is an incredible organization that aims to save children in Ghana from being sold into slavery. At mile 26, Banners lined the road with the faces of children saved by this charity. I was touched by this more than any aspect of any other marathon I have run. It was an incredibly powerful sight. It definitely gave me the power to push through the last bit and finish strong.

Great Race. I highly recommend it. Id love to come back next year.

This RD has to be the most personable and motivated RD in the US. From emails to Facebook updates to in-person high fives. He and his staff make this race. Yes, course is flat to rolling and probably easy to PR for most people. But the best is driving home satisfied with everything the race did for you. They don't stop. They want every runner to have the best possible experience. THAT makes me want to come back.

I ran this marathon last year for the first time for my first 1/2 marathon ever. It has had an amazing impact that started my love for running! It was the overall feel of the event, which I feel starts from the top, thank you Chris and all your staff!! I will do this every year without a doubt!

This race is great from registration to finish line. I would not change a thing. The race director is the best I have ever seen. I highly recommend this race.

1) Outstanding communication and organization from the Race Director and his volunteer staff
2) Free parking within walking distance from the start/finish = awesome! Bonus that it's also very easily accessible
3) Aid stations every 1.5 miles with water and gatorade; some of the later aid stations also had FOOD and GU. It's comforting to know this is available in case there are any mishaps in your original race plan (again.. excellent communication from the organization team)
4) Medic stations after the first half of the race, staffed with very attentive professionals. At one point I took a walk break and one of the medics walked with me a short distance to make sure I was fine.
5) Fantastic downhill finish this year.
6) Finisher's medal is very classy. I've completed this race 3 times, and each time I have absolutely loved my medal. Even better that as I crossed the finish line the Race director and Co-race director were there to give high-fives and sweaty hugs.
7) I didn't leave the race hungry, that's for sure. The post-race spread is fantastic. This year there were 3 kinds of beer and margaritas, pizza rolls, hamburgers, fresh fruit, chocolate milk, cookies...
8) This year the weather was quite cold, so every runner got a mylar blanket to help stay warm once they crossed the finish. How thoughtful is that?!

I absolutely love this race. Great course, great runner support, great charities supported.. I could go on and on. In fact I will! One more thing that was really great about this race was the numerous port o potties at the start/finish! These were also along the race route (every 3 miles). Super, because you never know!

"The best race out there!" (about: 2013)

This was my second half marathon to run, but the first time to run this race, and it was by far the best I've done or seen! The Facebook page updates and giveaways every week were something I looked forward to. The race itself was amazing, from a mainly flat course with just a couple hills, to the awesome cheering organizations on campus, and brownie/gummy bear station (which I absolutely loved). Also the amazing volunteer who gave out water and Gatorade at every 1.5 miles, and getting to see the sweet pictures of the African children that were rescued out of slavery as we ran towards the finish line. And then finally being awarded my finisher medal by the cutest little Down syndrome girl. This whole race was the best out there and I can't wait to come back next year and participate in it again. Thanks for an amazing experience!

I live in BCS and had avoided running it as it was nothing new... and I made a big mistake. I have ran many marathons and my local one has quickly become my FAVORITE. I will be back.

The BCS Marathon outdoes itself every year. I showed up Sunday morning with high expectations based on how well the race had been executed the past two years, but I still left blown away. Each year I run this race, I think to myself, 'This race is so great! There is no way they will be able to top this next year!' But they always do.

The organization of this race is impressive. Down to every detail. The refuel stations came exactly when I needed an extra boost. Same to the student organizations cheering me on when my confidence in being able to complete the race was fading. Parking was not a hassle. I left my hotel, in Bryan, 25 minutes before the start and still had time to park and sit in my warm car for a few moments. The race director gave me a high five as I crossed the finish line.

I cannot say enough good things about this race. It's become a winter tradition of mine. As long as I am able to run, I will have a trip to College Station planned every December.
