This was a really nice race. The weather was cold, but I think it actually helped me cut 11 minutes from my previous PR. The fans along the route were great especially loud on the TAMU campus, the water/ gatorade stations were plentiful and well placed, and the route was varied (not boring). The course had some rises and falls but no major hills. It was like a huge group run with a great finish (all the right food & refreshments).

"Way organized and a great community." (about: 2013)

This is a small and somewhat remote marathon, but really well done. We travelled from Austin, which was easy. The course is lightly rolling hills, so it felt fast. If you are fast, you might place at this race (note: 2013 brought in a lot of last minute Dallas runners needing a race after their weather cancellation). 2012 was hot I am told. Look at 2011 for comps. Very light crown support except through the University and at end. The price is right and goody bag better than expected. Great deals at the Expo (bought 2 pairs of shoes, cap and shirt). I may do it again if I stay in state.

Race organizers were amazingly transparent. When weather became an issue they were constantly updating all runners via facebook/email to let them know exactly what was going on and why they were doing what they were to address it. I appreciated all the gear and extras that were added! I paid less for this half than usual and got 2X the amount of free stuff! The expo was easy to get to, plenty of volunteers so i didnt have to wait in line at all. Overall i cant say enough good things about this race!

The only thing better than the half-marathon course was the constant updates and encouragement from the race directors.

From the registration to the post-race party, everything was incredible. Chris did a phenomenal job in planning for and communicating with the runners. The course was full of amazing spectators, frequent water stations, and helpful medical stations. The views of CS and A&M's campus were memorable. Running the final mile of the race and seeing the sweet faces of the young boys and girls that this race is helping and supporting made crossing the finish line even more incredible. The huge medal, finishing shirt, and delish post-race grub were all just icing on the cake! So thankful for such an amazing first half-marathon experience. I will be back next year and every year after that!
