I have run a number of marathons and I can't say enough about how hard this marathon tries to please. They really make you feel welcome as soon as you sign up for this one. From the newsletters they send you to the different training programs, the organizers seem commited to you.

This marathon is one of the better organized that I have run. They seemed to have everything well planned out and the race went off without any glitches.

The course itself is interesting, although quite challenging. We ran across two different bridges and back and forth into Kentucky. From there, it was a steady climb up to mile 12. Rolling hills lead you on to the finish. Here is my one complaint about the course. From mile 17 or so to mile 22 you are running beside a highway. There is almost no crowd support and the course gets kind of boring. The rest of the course was great with excellent crowd support.

The finish line is one of the best I have seen. There were tons of beverages, Panera bagels, fruit galore, and bags of potato chips. Good stuff!

Finally, the goodies at this marathon included a t-shirt, poster, and a cool little bag that I use as my new workout bag.

All in all, well done and I will be back.

This was my first marathon and I had a great time. The first 10 miles are gorgeous, crossing the Ohio twice at sunrise and then the views from Eden Park are stunning. Wow. I want to thank the 3:30 pacer, who helped me hold it together from the point I caught him at 22 miles to the finish. Injuries meant I was very undertrained for the event, but his encouragement and rock solid pace helped tremendously. Superb in his encouragement to all of us. Great crowds, great fun.

An outstanding marathon! As a native northern Kentuckian (and occasional marathoner), the Flying Pig served more or less as an excuse to make a trip home. It goes without saying that I?ll be making many more ?coincidental? visits home in early May for years to come. From the expo to the post-race party, everything was utterly fantastic. I don?t think the organizers could have put together a better course. The hills that seem to have become something of folklore were nothing to lose any sleep over---and that?s from the perspective of a guy who trained in Florida. There?s not enough that can be said about the fan support. They were absolutely awesome! Between the bagpipe player, the gospel choir, the rock bands, the volunteers, and of course the thousands of spirited spectators, it took very little effort to keep one?s motivation level up. My only beef with this race (and a very small beef at that) was the ?freebie? T-shirt, though the finisher?s shirt more than made up for it. All things considered, the Flying Pig easily tops any race I?ve ever done. See you in 2006!

This was my first marathon, and I was warned about the hills, but they really didn't seem that bad. Hats off to the folks in Cincinnati! The crowd support was awesome! I too was a little let down by the finish area. It seemed anticlimactic and not real organized. I can't wait to run it next year.

The 2005 Flying Pig was my first marathon and I'm sure I couldn't have chosen a better one to get the intial marathon experience. The first few miles were very scenic with the route visiting the riverfront area in both Ohio and Kentucky. Although it was a little crowded and a slower pace in the first few miles, it was a great way to loosen up on a chilly morning before increasing pace as the runners thinned out. The climb to the Hyde Park area was gradual enough as to not get too winded and the views were enough to make you forget about it anyway. I still get chills thinking of running through the huge crowds in Hyde Park... the support there is fantastic! The only downside to the entire race was the relatively small number of spectators from around 17 to 21 miles. The finishing crowds were great and the riverfront area was certainly a nice scene to run toward in the last few miles. I definitely plan to run it again!

"A wonderful first-time marathon experience" (about: 2005)

I would highly recommend this race to any first-time marathoner. This was my first and I qualified for Boston. Everything about the race - the spectators, the water stops, the finish line 'for the runners' were great. My only concern for the future is to have the ability to allow family to get closer at the finish line. Overall the race organization far outshined the post-race party organization. The party leaves much to be desired, although I don't even think the postrace party was even necessary, I got my excitement from the race itself. Maybe future post-race parties would have more to do. More than half the booths in the victory party were vacant. The so-called 'Michelob Ultra' beer truck was really, really lame. One place for a few thousand people to get beer? If there isn't going to be much of a party, don't advertise it as much.

I have to admit that I came for the name alone. The free gifts for just signing up were terrific!
I did expect a lot more from the shirt... very marginal race shirt... where's the pig????

The course was nice, the support excellent, but where were the owners of those nice homes that we ran by??? Not cheering us on from their homes at least.
Lots of music... but not past the finish line?! The food was just snacks and tad bit confusing with people asking you where you found this or that.
The other runners were as good as the spectators at cheering you on. A very friendly, fun event.

Okay, the hotels were across the river from the start, but it was a great day so that did not matter much this year. The water was the worst hose water that I have ever tasted. Again, the t-shirt let me down... and hotels were somewhat pricey... not the race's fault.

But still a great run, would prefer more at the finish in food and entertainment as the weather was nice enough to hang around. The water on the course was nasty. A great effort and fun run!

Oh, was the elevation chart of the course that we ran??? It sure seemed hillier than the profile indicated; my friends all think that I am a sissy for saying that it was a hilly course after they looked at the profile...

This was a great run with fabulous benefits. I am working on all 50 states and could not have picked a better race for Ohio. The spectators were great and some even walked with me the last few miles to keep my spirits up. There was a lot of music and plenty of aid stations. The course was really hilly (read: not fun) and sometimes really quiet - but so green and peaceful that I didn't mind the solitude. I would recommend this race for first-timers as well as the lovers of big-city races. They even called out my name when I crossed the finish line. Now that is a great personal touch that cannot be matched after five hours of running. Two hooves way, way up Cinncinati. All hail the Flying Pig!!!

'The Pig' was extremely well run and supported. The fan support was outstanding. Don't let the hills deter you from running it next year. It wasn't that tough, and the one long incline/descent kind of segmented the course nicely. Perfect running weather topped it all off!!!!
