I have run all 7 Pigs. This one was not another PR but this was the best weekend I have had in a while. Everything was perfect, including the weather.

What a great race! Of course, I had read all the comments about this race last year and was ready for any bad weather. But -- in the five marathons I have raced so far -- I have never had such a great experience! The spectators were first-class -- lots of them! No problems with water, sports drink, or food at the end. (The only negative for me was that the family reunion area was so far from the finish line that it took me forever to crawl there and meet my husband; I wish it had been a bit closer!)

The expo was fun too -- I loved all the free extras, especially the locker bag. Absolutely cool! The hills were a bit of a killer but they just made the whole day more of a challenge. The City of Cincinnati shines through with this race. We (my husband and I) were so impressed that not only will I be back to race next year, but we will also come back just to visit. A great time!

A very well organized race. As always, thanks to the many volunteers and police. We can't do the race without them. The course was fully supported and the expo was great, with all the extras in the goody bag. I'll be back.

"Challenging Race with Welcoming Fans" (about: 2005)

I completed my first Flying Pig yesterday and I know I will return. The course was challenging with continous changes in elevation and difficulty. The city and neighborhoods were scenic and exciting and the spectators quite hospitable. The highlights were the Lookout at Eden Park and the Gospel Choir at mile 23! I highly recommend this race to new and old alike.

This was only my second recent marathon with my first being last years Marine Corps Marathon. The marines did a great job, but this marathon had much more personality. The expo and free gifts were enough for my non-running wife to ask me about doing this again next year. The hills on the course are not as dramatic as some would have you believe. I am from a hilly part of West Virginia, and I was expecting similar sized hills on this course, but they were more like mole hills. The volunteers and the fans were the best part of the race. They were numerous, supportive, and very vocal. I would highly recommend this race to anyone who wants to experience a fun marathon.

This is a very well run race that is superbly organized and well supported both by sponsors and the community. For a relativly new event it is a hit. The organization and theme are great. Even better, rather than throwing away money on cash prizes for elite runners or giveaways to elite runners, all the money is spent on things for the entrants.

It is nice to see a race which has gotten this big and successfull remembering to spend the money on the runners who are the life blood of the race rather then on the elites, who pursue prize money without giving back to the sport. Running belongs to the people and this race seems to remember that fact.

The expo was great, the pasta party was fun, the community supports the race in everyway you could hope for, the course while not easy was fair, and the giveaways excellent. Maybe if more races that get successfull remember that the race belongs to the community and the runners and not elites, those race would still be around.

You have a great race going. Keep up the good work. Anyone who likes running marathons should put this race on their calendar and do the Flying Pig. Great theme, great execution, loved the pigs.

Very scenic, well organized race. Lots of good souvenirs and freebies at the finish. Great fan support. Tough hills but very rewarding. A fun run. Will run it every year.

This was my seventh marathon (three of Elite Racing's events included in my first six) and my favorite one so far! The fact that I PRed is only icing on the cake of my positive experience but despite that, this event was flawless. It was a ton of fun and organized to a T. Encouraging and creative spectators were plentiful along the entire course. Aid stations were frequent and well stocked. The medals were beautiful! The weather was perfect. The entertainment and finish line area rivals any of Elite Racing's events. Way to go Flying Pig organizers!

I had intended to run this race ever since its inception in 1999. I chose a great year to do so, as the weather was perfect.

It's a beautiful course (I love rolling hills) and really showcases your beautiful city. There were lots of aid stations and the spectators were fantastic!

I was disappointed with the race shirt (low quality and very uninspired), but the finisher's shirt was very nice. And, of course the medal... wonderful!

Very nice experience overall!

"Great Half Marathon" (about: 2005)

3 previous marathons | 1 Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon
COURSE: 4  ORGANIZATION: 5  FANS: 4

This year the Flying Pig added a 1/2 marathon. I have previously run 3 marathons and 2 half marathons. The Flying Pig was my third half marathon and it couldn?t have been a better experience. The crowd (though sporadic) and the participants were all great, but real kudos to the volunteers. They were friendly and visible. The water stations were well-manned and frequent. Once you crossed the finish line, things were spread out enough so that people weren't bunched up to have their chip removed or to get refreshments. I also liked that transportation was readily available to take people back to their hotels on the other side of the river. The expo was nice (although I found the jewelry and cookware booth to be a bit out of place) but you were pretty much forced to go through a maze of booths before getting your T-Shirt. I would recommend this race but probably not for first-timers because the hills were somewhat challenging. I will definitely run the Pig again.
